Hi Everyone!

I'm new here. I have 10 months experience in L&D (straight from Nursing school). I have not yet taken the FHMPP certification course b/c there has never been a convenient one available. I was wondering if anyone out there did NOT take the initial 2-day course and went right to the advanced 1-day course. If so, what did you think? Were you able to pass the test no problem? I would like to take the 2-day course but I cannot afford to be away from home two days straight. Please let me know what you think and if it is possible to pass. I know the 2-day is recommended first but the AWHONN website states that it is NOT required first.

Thanks!

I took the Fetal Heart Monitoring, Practice and Principles by AWHONN in the fall of 2001, just a few months after I graduated from nursing school and started right into L&D. At that point, I had already learned about basic fetal heart monitoring from self-learning (using a wonderful modules book) and from working in L&D with an excellent preceptor.

I HIGHLY recommend taking the 2 day FHMPP course, before you attempt the advanced course. You will learn a huuuuuuge amount of technical and clinical information that you might not be able to pick up on your own in practice...and it all really helps you pull it all together when you look at fetal heart monitor strips!

Take the 2 days, take the course. It's very well worth it.
