Nurse with Multiple Sclerosis hard to find a job

Hi everyone,

I was diagnosed with MS in Nov. of 2010. At the time I was working FT in California and had to g home back east. My FMLA ran out and I have been looking for work since Dec. 2011.

I even was trying since Aug of 2011 for a PT position. No luck.

I was sent a letter of termination from the FT job in Cali, but they said I was welcome to

reapply for any job opening I could do whenever my health permitted it.

I have showed this letter on 2 interviews and I think it worked against me. I won't

show it again.

What should I say on a job application- that I was fired? Or terminated because the

hospital had to fill the position?

Maybe I should get a job at the mall then apply for SSDI when I get a bad relapse.

Don't know what to do.

Multiple Sclerosis changed my life completely and I am only 42!

I don't know if you've found employment yet, but I have had MS for 20 yrs, since I was 21 and I'm 41 now. This is what I wound do in your situation. I would say that you took FMLA for a "family issue" that took awhile until it was "resolved" leading your employer with no choice but to fill the position. You can say that the issue was resolved awhile ago but you chose to take a break from working, but are now raring to go!

I hate that you were diagnosed and ended up terminated from your job. I, too, have MS and was diagnosed right before or right after my 18th birthday *It was the week before or week after* So, that was in August of 2005 and ended up on disability. I'm still on it at the moment, but am a on the road to become a nurse *I'm doing my CNA right now, it's a requirement to get into the Nursing Programd where I go to school* and am hoping to be able to become a NP someday. I still have a long and hard road ahead of me, but have faith that God will help me through this. I have a little girl now that I have to take care of, so I take my medications and do my infusion therapy once a month that will *hopefully* help me to get through school. I always wanted to me a nurse, but didn't think I could do it, but my little girl gave me the mind set to do it, because she deserves a better life than I can ever give her on the limited amount of money I get once a month right now!

Good luck though! I hope they put you on the right medications and treatment that will help you to get back out there and do what you love to do! =)
