Hi,

I recently graduated from a BSN program took my NCLEX last month and passed!!! Recently got offered a new grad position with a hospital and i'm going to be in Med-Surg. Not going to lie i am kinda of nervous just because i will be responsible for my own patients. I feel like since i finished school (end of August) to now it feels like I "brain dumped" and don't feel competent. I don't know if its the nerves taking over but i'm nervous. Hopefully this feeling goes away once I start the new grad program. Any advice or wisdom for a new grad. going into the nursing profession?

Thank you,

Nervous Wreck

I believe your anxiety is perfectly normal, and will recede once you get comfortable in your environment. A new grad program indicates the hospital is aware that you will need help in attaining your goals.

CONGRATS on graduating, passing the NCLEX, and getting into the new grad program in a timely fashion :) That is such a big a accomplishment! You are perfectly normal to feel anxious..and it will go away in NO time..I have precepted new grads and trust me...we start slow...you basically shadow for the first few times...then maybe pass po meds..do an assessment...take the vitals..take one patient..then a 2nd etc....throughout the weeks of your preceptorship...if you have a good preceptor..you'll have a great experience :)
