May I ask what other RNAC's are doing in anticipation of MDS 3.0. I know some folks who are trying to get all thier annuals for the last quarter of the year done early so they dont have to mess with that in Oct-Dec. I guess they can focus just on admissions and quarterlies and ease into the rest. I hope this makes sense. Anyone else doing anything like this?

Hi.

Your suggestion is a good one! (just don't get too mad with yourself in September 2011!!)

Here's a few more suggestions:

  1. Be sure our co-workers--social service, activities, dietary, etc.--understand their new responsibilities and interviews. Who is going to do what and when? Relate each interview to an admission (or annual) history/review/progress note. Develop signs, large print responses, large print vision tests, etc. NOW
  2. Inform physicians and mental health team about the PHQ9. Do they want to be notified of any/every score? Are there any clients that they do NOT want us to interview with this tool?
  3. Discuss with nursing assistants--let them know what kind of new information we will be collecting. Be sure they understand about the change in recording INDEPENDENT--no help at all, ever, of any kind.
  4. Do a few parallel assessments NOW. If there are items that are not understood or truly problematic, let your state RAI Coordinator know NOW. Get a feel for the REAL amount of time it will take to complete.

Good luck to all of us!

Our Administrator went to a 3.0 seminar yesterday, and today she stated that she "would be willing to appoint someone to do the new 'interviews' on the 3.0" for us, to help save us some time and make the transition easier. I think it would be helpful, so am all for it.

I will not have any ARD's set between Sept 27 and Oct. 2, by using early days or grace days, but this will be an organized process if it kills me. Bearing in mind I have a 200 bed facility, this will be a good trick. Good idea about the annuals getting done in Sept. We could start this now, and for LTC we wouldn't have any annuals due for a while.....hmmmm..........
