I know the seminar we're signed up for is just a one day seminar - so not sure how much they'll be able to cover.

Just wondering if anyone has attended yet, and what your thoughts are on the changes, what the presenter said, and what everyone else had concerns about.

I haven't yet reviewed the new RAI manual, but have looked over the MDS itself, and noted several changes.

Hi. Hopefully your session will be AFTER mid-June so you will hear about what CMS hopes will be the final final MDS and RAI Manual.

WHATEVER you are "taught", you need to read all the RAI Manual material yourself--before-hand if possible so you can ask questions at your class. Let your colleagues know what is going on, too--even your physicians--so they know about the PHQ 9.

We're going to the Seminar on May 12th. But the MDS Coordinator said she thinks 'there are several seminars that we'll be going to' in regards to the 3.0. I plan to ask the Administrator if I can print off the RAI today while at work....because I'm not using my printer here at home.

Hi--just a few words more :bugeyes:

  • Try to go to sessions given in part by your state RAI coordinator--will be cheaper, and he/he has no "agenda" except to have you LEARN
  • 2nd best--sessions sponsored by your state AHCA or AAHSA affiliate
  • if you don't yet know your state RAI coordinator, establish a relationship and ask he/she to keep you and your facility informed when changes occur--or ask how he/she plans to keep everyone informed
  • there will be CMS prepared tutorials and other types of training on line by end of May or middle of June--perhaps "hold-off" going to anything until after you see if these meet your needs

The current seminar is sponsored by the Illinois council on long term care, so shouldn't have an agenda.

I'm working on getting the RAI manual downloaded & printed - to start studying/reviewing.

Sounds like a plan! Just be flexible --there WILL BE more changes! :grn:But don't believe anything until you see it in writing from CMS.

Be sure to share any/all information with your colleagues. The PHQ9 and BIMS will be of interest to your social worker (and should replace similar tools currently in use to screen for depression and cognitive status), medical staff, medical director, and any mental health staff/consultants. Rehab therapists also need to know about the BIMS, as they frequently "check" cognition before creating a POC.

I took the manual on disc to Kinko's, and it cost me $108.00 to print. It was worth it because I got it back to back. There was a lot of background info that I didn't need, but it's good to have. The comparison chart for 2.0 to 3.0 made me dizzy so I am waiting for training, but I have reviewed the manual. I am hoping the companies train all the disciplines and not just the MDS coordinators, because dietary and ss have changed a LOT.

Keep everyone posted on all the training courses we receive. We will get conflicting information, I promise....
