Who really loves NGCSU?

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Short history of my situation:

I finished my first semester at GPC, but withdrew from the second semester. I've been accepted at Athens Tech's ADN program, pending an available seat in January, and I've also applied to NGCSU Associates Degree program. At either program, I'll be starting in January during the second semester/quarter, since I'm transferring my first semester from GPC. I haven't heard from NGCSU yet, but they say I should get a letter any day now.

Now my questions:

Anyone have any opinions of NGCSU's satellite programs, specifically Gainesville? Or the program in general. I must say that I'm very nervous about beginning again, excited, but nervous. GPC's program left a very sour taste in my mouth, but I love the nursing profession, and I cannot do without it. I can't wait to get back into a hospital.

Any of you who attend(ed) NGCSU please reassure me. I know how difficult nursing school is....it's the nature of the beast. But are the instructors helpful? Is the program doable? Before GPC nursing program, I was an A student, even in A&P and Micro. That program just broke me, for lack of a better description.

Any and all opinions are welcome! Thank you all.

I am a first year NGCSU student, and I have to say that I really do love it. I am extremely happy with North Georgia, thus far. I am at the North Metro campus, so I cannot personally speak for Gainesville -- but there are others, here, that do attend at the Gainesville campus, and I'm sure they'd be happy to share.

Most people who have attended GPC have been extremely negative and disheartened. (Check previous posts -- you are not alone in the experience you had at GPC.) The only somewhat difficult thing about North Georgia is that a lot of it is truly self-study -- the professors can only cover just so much, with one day per week of lecture. So, you have to stay motivated and keep on top of things. Otherwise, you will not do well. (If you know that going into it, you're a lot better off.) The professors really seem to want you to succeed. That, alone, helps tremendously. It's not easy, but it can be done.

If you are willing to give it another try at NGCSU, I say go for it. I really think you will have a MUCH different experience at NGCSU than GPC.

Good luck!!! :balloons:

I'm a second year student at NGCSU - only one semester left!!! I have nothing but praise for NGCSU's program. I took all of my pre-reqs at GPC and was accepted there, but already had friends in the program who said "go anywhere but here!!", so I ran! Like Atlanta6789 said, a lot of our program is self study. We are in lecture one day a week - the professors cover the most important stuff and they expect us to read the rest on our own. However, the material on the tests are always in the lecture, powerpoints, or test blue prints - we are never left in the dark about what is going to be covered on the test. The instructor's at NGCSU are VERY supportive. They all want us to succeed, and will do whatever is in their power to help us. We also have a wonderful new department head who has really ben an advocate for the students. The program is definitely doable - of course every program loses some students. I think last year our program graduated 98 (out of a beginning class of 107). I have a friend that attended GPC's pinning ceremony and said only 20 people (out of a class of 100 or so) made it to graduation! Our program is not easy, but I think it is designed for success. Good luck!:)

Wow..... 98 of 107 finished?!?!? That's unbelievable compared to the program I left. I just talked with a friend who is still in the program. She just started her third semster. She said that out of both campuses, about 40 of the original 150 are still going. Ouch.....

...crossing my fingers that an acceptance letter arrives soon!

Abmsam, did you get the acceptance letter?

I'm a former GPC nursing student who started with you in the fall but I don't know who you are. Anyway, I held out a little longer and made it through med-surge and psyche. I'm hoping to transfer to NGCSU in January as well.

I'm waiting for an acceptance/rejection letter. I keep having little mini heart attacks when I go to the mailbox. Everyone at NGCSU is very nice and their program has an excellent reputation. I'll just be beside myself if I don't get in.

Hi Emily. I sent you a PM. I got a "you've been placed on a waiting list letter." Not sure if I'm excited about that response or dissapointed. Of course, I'd hoped to get the ol' "Welcome to NGCSU" letter, but it's much better than a rejection. Good luck, and we'll see what happens...

Hi! I just wanted to say that both Athens Tech and NGCSU are great programs. I'm currently in the NGCSU program and LOVE it! I think you will be happy with either one. I've had a few friends go to athens tech and the program sounds similar. So if you get in one and not the other don't be to upset. Good luck to you! Just don't give up, GPC is a stressful program and nursing school doesn't have to be all stress. Keep your chin up and good luck!
