Dalton State

U.S.A. Georgia

Did anyone here get accepted to/graduate from Dalton State fairly recently? I just have a few questions about their program. Thanks!

Specializes in TELE, ICU.

I went there, what do you want to know?

Thanks so much for responding! First off, I'd like to find out how you felt about the program as far as the quality, what you learned, how the professors were, if you enjoyed going to school there, and if you feel like you were adequately prepared to be a nurse. Also, where did you do clinicals? And what kind of gpa/SAT scores/etc. did you have that got you admitted to the program? Thanks so much for your help!

They have an 86% NCLEX pass rate. About 10 out of 60-70 students fail NCLEX every year. It's a very hard program, many cannot work during school. If you want to feel "adequately prepared" afterwards you almost have to be a nurse tech to do so, which is difficult b/c of the course work. No comment about the professors, I think they are like most professors talked about in the nursing student forums, so get ready for that too. Most people have been in school at DSC for 4 years just to get the ASN/ADN. A few get accepted fast and have only been there 3 years at graduation time. Those are usually the ones with high, GPAs (like 3.8 and up) or that have previous degrees, but that's not a guarantee either. Hope this helps.

Yikes...well, thanks so much for the info, I really appreciate it! I'm applying there for Fall '09 and just wanted to see what I was getting myself into if I happened to get accepted.

I will applying for the Fall 2009, too. Any idea if they take most that apply, or usually what the GPA range is of those that gets accepted?

I know they don't take most that apply, in speaking with the chair of the nursing department I've discovered it's very competitive. I'm not sure about the typical GPA of a student that is accepted, but I do know that you have a better shot if you have all your prereqs done, a high GPA, and high SAT scores. They also give you extra consideration if you already have another degree (Bachelor's).

Do you know what the RN programs uniforms look like? I'm curious

I don't know what their uniforms look like, I'm curious too but frankly, I'll wear scrubs made out of burlap if that's what it takes!:D I am so worried I won't get into nursing school.

I asked a friend & they wear navy blue scrubs & white shoes, not bad! Are you from Dalton?

Navy blue sounds good to me! I'm actually in Canton...it'll be quite a drive! Are you in Dalton?
