Hi! I'm scheduled in for an interview on the 25th with Samuel Merritt College for the ABSN program, and I was wondering if anyone here has any experience interviewing for this program (or knows someone who has)... What was it like? Did you feel prepared to answer the questions? And what was the essay portion like?

I'm a bit nervous, so I figured I might as well ask. I saw some information on the ELMSN and CRNA interviews, but not much on the ABSN... is it any different?

Also, does anyone know any current students who I can talk to about what the program is currently like? I've heard opinions from students in their BSN and ELMSN programs regarding what they've seen people in the ABSN program doing (and how high the workload and stressload can get).. It would be nice to be able to talk to someone currently in the program about it. =)

Good luck tomorrow! I just got notice of my interview @ SMC on 2/2. I'm so happy! Even though there are no guarantees I feel like I'm a little step closer.

I just saw this post and have to ask...how did your interview go? I just sent my app in for the ABSN program a few days ago and now I'm waiting it out. Just hoping for an interview.

You are off the hook. They no longer do an interview! Good luck!!

Last year, I applied for the 5/07 Oakland SMC ABSN program, and was offered a seat without an interview. Heard they only interview those who are on the bubble. Ended up having to postpone nursing school due to family emergency.

Hoping that they'll offer me a seat in the Jan'08 Sacto class.

Hey Pug, I think we are in the same nursing patho class (N36, with Scroggins).

I was told they are still doing "group" interviews at the Sac center this year. Guess we'll see in a few weeks! Good luck to you again this time around =) Hopefully we'll see each other in January!

And, actually I'm taking patho with Poynter. I had heard some horror stories about Scroggins. How is it? My class isn't too bad but I'll be glad when it's done in a few weeks.

Scroggins is okay, but the course is a grind. I'm working on the Renal essay right now, and I'll take the Respiratory test tomorrow. I'm also looking forward to finishing this class. Are you go to any of the Sacto open houses? I'm going next Thursday the 19th. If you're there, look for a tall guy with a big nose, that's me.

lol!

I went to one of the open houses a few months ago, so I won't be attending this week. I wouldn't mind going again but I have micro that night. It was really nice to listen to actual teachers and students that are in the program.

If you don't mind me asking...did you have all of the pre-req's done before you applied? I'm freaking out a bit that I applied without having finished Micro (I'll finish in 4 weeks) or Life Span Development (taking a short class this fall). My background is in human development so I'm not too worried about that pre-req. Micro is such a major component that I'm worried it'll will lower my chances of getting in. Geez...2 more months of all this worrying!!!

A few pre-reqs unfinished? No problem.

Last year I had Lifespan Dev, Interpersonal Comm, Patho, and a second English Lit left to complete when I applied, and I still got the nod. Right now, I'm finishing up Patho and Interpersonal Comm next week.

I took a CNA training course last year, and half the class was applying to SMC. I've stayed in touch with some and I've heard that the school puts a lot of stock in your NET score.

My stats are approx. 3.8 science pre-reqs, 3.7 all SMC pre-reqs, 3.6 overall, 86 NET, CNA. Pretty average for pre-nursing. I just hope I get another shot at SMC.

Saw the stats on UCSFs entering class last year. You practically have to have a Nobel to get in there.

So, how was the open house? Gain any valuable insights? :)
