Paying for School...

Hi there, This is my first post here...I will be starting a BSN program in the fall at Simmons College in Boston, MA. I already have a BA in Psychology, it just took me a while to find my "true" calling...my question is how are people paying for it? I have been looking at some scholarship web sites but looking for suggestions on more ways to apply for some. I just got my acceptance last week, so I am a little behind on timelines. Any advise/comments appreciated!

37 thousand dollars worth of student loans. Both Stafford, Perkins, and Private loans.

My payments start 6 months after graduation, $447.83 a month for the next 10 years. Not very pretty, but atleast I will have my Bachelor's, and that was my first priority.

Good luck, its rough, but it can be done :)

Like you, I have a BA (in English) and am returning to school for my BSN in the fall. I'm getting student loans (again, still have loans from the first degree!). It's a lot easier to get scholarships and other aid if you are a full-time (my program is part-time), first-time student, but there may be some exceptions.

We will be paying off my husband's law school debt for quite some time so my loans are a *relative* drop in the bucket. Of couse, I'd prefer not to have more debt, but right now it's the only way: I want the BSN (for various reasons). For one thing, the ADN would be cheaper, but it would take me the same amount of time to complete as the BSN. And I don't want to agree to work at a hospital in exchange for tuition. Once I start working as a nurse, however, I expect to pay back my loans quickly.

BTW, I am attending a private school, and it costs the same as the state school here. The state school adds a surcharge onto its nursing courses, so the fee per credit hour is exactly the same at both schools. Interesting, isn't it?

I will be attending Columbia in May. They gave me almost half the tuition in scholarship, but it is still very expensive. Add loans for living expenses and I'm going to be in debt forever. I've decided not to worry about it. Things always seem to work out somehow! I am applying for the National Health Service program where you pay back your debt to them by working several years for them.

Hello,

Does anyone know about the loan repayment programs for nursing students/professionals. I have seen several scholarship programs that advertise paying for your loans in the event that you work for a underprivileged health facility once you receive your degree.

Does anyone have any insight on that?
