My First Week in Nursing School

Nursing Students General Students

This is kinda long - but I thought some might find it interesting.

Well test the 1st day (I think I established that on a couple of threads).

Class is 8 in one & 27 in mine. ONE GUY:D , bless his heart. People in the class for the most part are real nice. Though I am concerned w/ one lady - she came out of the bathroom stall, was STILL pulling up her pants & did not wash her hands

:stone I would think HYGIENE would teach her that.

Day 2 - did 2 chapters, introduced ourselves.

Day 3 TEST! Cried my eyes out b/c I thought I did bad BUT, made a B!

Day 3 - Got fitted for uniforms. I LIKE THEM. And, I can wear a small :D . Went over hygiene. Watched movie. Addressed the class about taking photo's & that this "nursing school" meant a lot to me & that I was going to keep a scrap book. THEY LOOKED AT ME LIKE I WAS THE GOODY-GOODY FROM GREASE (remeber her, w/ the long ponytail that bounced around & was just too happy). It was like their faces were "HUH" - "why"

Day 5 - "discussed" bedbaths & bed making - tried it, & THAN watch movie on them. AND was told we have a test on how to make beds & bathing on Wed. And we have a test on Tuesday as well.

OK - problems I have encountered. 2 young "chickies" drive me nuts. Woman who didn't wash her hands will NOT practice on me giving shots! The teacher did not "demonstrate" on how to give a bath or make the bed." I am a visual learner & she just paired us up w/ people who were CNA's. WELL, they do it differently in the real world, not what you are going to be tested on. So, I think that this is a potential problem. Classes start too early & there is NO room to park. And doctor put me on a medication called Strattera. Umm - maybe I am like that girl on Grease:o

Everything else is GREAT. Love being in school & not having to work. Love our uniforms & we get to wear a cap. Love our teachers - just wish they would show us first. Hope I graduate.

Hope you enjoyed my week. I did, but I am tired.

Good to hear that everyone is in good spirits for the first couple of weeks of school. I'm just starting clinicals (working towards my BSN). My first week it seemed that everyone in my class was FREAKING OUT - the anxiety in the classroom was so thick you could cut it w/a knife. I was one of a few that was calm, cool, and collected. Made me think that something was wrong with me! :) Then I realized I was one of old farts in the classroom who had already been through too many rough spots to count!

Week #2 - everyone seems pulled together. We had a Vital Signs return demo and of course, I got the Nazi Nursing Prof from Hell. She looks like Carol Channing (comedienne) but her disposition... Well, there's nothing funny about it! I couldn't even win her over with my cheesy grin! :D I'll keep trying...

Hang in there, everyone! I'll be here to listen to y'all vent if you need to!
