OK. I'm freaking out right now. I've waited so long (1 year) while taking my pre-reqs to get into nursing school, and now that I'm finally starting it in August I'm freaking out!! I've been looking into numerous threads about attrition rates and this is just bumming me out!! I mean... " started with 70 students and now we have 30" kind of posts. I dont mean to make this thread into a "at my school we started with X number and ended up with X number at graduation" I want to now what happens to these students that fail. Do they typically dont work to hard or what?? I have gone through the whole... A&P I,II, Microbiology, Nutrition, Sociology, Psychology, Dev. Psychology, Chemistry, Medical Terminology etc with all A's but now I'm starting to wonder if I will make in Nursing school, and I'm feeling truly bummed out. My anxiety is just eating me from the inside! Help

Thank you all for the feedback. My confidence level has risen significantly. Sometimes I guess we need some positive notes on the issue. These hundreds of posts stating the fail rates made my confidance level down, but just reading your posts made it all better. Hey!!!! you guys cured me!!! You really are health care providers!! thanks

I can understand your feelings when reading these kind of posts but it is true. Almost everyone I knew who was in my first year nursing classes went in with As in the pre-reqs. Nursing classes aren't like the regular classes like A&P, etc. At least in my school, they are strick. You have to have this done and this done. No exceptions. You can only make-up one test or quiz and any test or quiz afterwards you receive a zero. There are so many rules. Plus the grading scale is hard. The lowest C is a 77% and if you get a grade below that you can't continue. So it is difficult for everyone but if you have the determination and if you do the studying and do the work required, you will do fine. I don't know the rules of your college but these are some of mine.

I'm not a perfect nursing student. I do okay in class but I struggle in clinicals. But I keep my head up high and repeatedly tell myself I can do this. I made it my first year and now I only have to get through one more year.

Remember you can do this. Do the studying. Do the work and try not to freak out. This is a very exciting time in your life now. Not a time to be bummed out.:)

frankiebrina, I know exactly what you mean. I'm starting in 3 weeks, and I have some of the same anxiety. I think part of it is that we've worked so hard and waited so long...I don't want to screw up and let my family, and more importantly, myself, down (I'm pretty sure my family will love me anyway:)).

I'm just trying to get myself as prepared as I know how to be. Deep down, I KNOW this is what I am meant to do.

Don't worry...You'll be fine (We all will).
