Going to Columbia?

Here's a thread for folks going to/about to start Columbia's ETP program. It seems like there are a lot of us, let's ask each other questions and network! Is anyone else going to the March 7 orientation? This should all seem less daunting if we make some connections before we end up in WasHeights, no?

I'm being a jerk and bumping my own thread because the info session was Monday and maybe some new people have come on the forum. Hi!

So what did you think of visiting day? I really liked everyone I met and I'm happy about what I learned about the different programs. Did you get any insider scoops? I was told don't bother buying the books for AP & nutrition.

No real inside scoops - just to get Dansko clogs. When do we take nutrition? I don't have it on my course list . . . Did you see a dorm? Oh wait, you live in NY. They're not so bad, really. Oh, and get a laptop with a wireless card if you can, apparently. Did you get to try on the uniform? Fugly!

LOL, I heard that about the clogs too, I'm starting to think the students had endorsement deals from dansko. I think we take nutrition in the fall, it's built into one of the other classes, so it's not listed, it's only 5 weeks or so. I didn't get to see a dorm room but I looked around the building (did you see the sundeck!). I'm actually applying for housing because my commute would be over and hour and a half if I stay where I am now (plus the monthly parking costs as much as the dorm), but I'll probably just move somewhere closer off-campus.

I was actually so excited about everything that I bought all the equipment, including an ultraportable laptop, and the books already. I got the Littman Cardio 3 on ebay for $60. I love ebay :)

And yes the uniforms were hideous :o

BTW, you can get *new* Dansko clogs on Ebay for about $50 less than anywhere else.

I'm so excited. I kind of had a panic attack at the infosession, but I feel better now. Hey, I was the one that asked the ? about the Integration portion with the RN's - how some people don't like this program. :chuckle I ordered the big expensive package of stuff, which it turns out was dumb because after the 1st year I'll need a new stethoscope for the NICU, but whatever. I wanted that CD of heart sounds. Hey, maybe we can get an apt. after the summer if we get along! :roll

See you in June, baby! Hey, remember when they said move-in is usually the Weds after Memorial day? Uh, yeah, that's the 1st day of orientation . . . :uhoh21:

Well, since I'm not too optimistic about getting student housing I started apartment hunting this weekend. I actually saw a few great 1 bedrooms in Inwood in the 800-1000 range. If you guys want to get an idea of what the rental market is in New York, try craigslist.org, that's where I've found the best information.
