hello fellow nurses,

well i'm a new member, hoping to find out information and get some advice from this site.

i am suffering from panic attacks/disorder and depression for about a year. however since i'm a first year student, i was just wondering whether this will affect my nursing career as a whole- will they kick me off the course with a mental illness??

i would really love to hear your stories on this topic also

thanks

I am recovering from a severe depressive episode. I have had depression for 6+ yrs, on medications. Have had 2 bad episodes this, last one , I had a fool proof plan for suicide. I just wanted to be "numb and stop hurting". My Wife of 35 yrs came to mind and our 2 boys, I couldn't do this to them. Went to my Therapist, told her I need to go to the mental hospital, went to ER said the same to the Dr. Same day I was in the mental hospital. Changed my med dosages, some theraies.

Now I see my therapist once a week, am off work for 3 weeks to recover, my hospital has been very accetping. I like my self again. The bottom line, get help however you have too!

today i requested time off work, docs wrote a letter and adviced me to have 2 months off the least. they didnt take it well. in fact they fired me. i'm back to square one and im already struggling financially. i couldnt believe how unsuppportive they were and worse they blamed it on my punctuality and attitude- iv worked there for 2 years noone even said owt!!! i've never been so humiliated in my life. i dont know what to do- i'm 'not allowed' to work, how the hell am i suppose to pay all the rent and bills!!!!!!!! now what am i suppose to do?? i knew this was coming, i knew someone somewhere would judge my mental ability.

i'm so stressed out. i feel crap again.
