FYI: HELLO EVERYONE! I AM AN ER NURSE AND NURSING INSTRUCTOR FOR A BSN PROGRAM IN MICHIGAN AND AM JUST ABOUT READY TO PUBLISH A CAREER GUIDE GEARED TOWARDS NURSING STUDENTS. THIS GUIDE WILL DESCRIBE APPROXIMATELY 70 SPECIALTY AREAS OF NURSING PRACTICE BOTH IN AND OUT OF THE HOSPITAL AS WELL AS SOME ADVANCED PRACTICE AREAS. THE GUIDE WILL DESCRIBE EACH NURSING SPECIALTY AS WELL AS ANY PRIOR WORK EXPEREINCE NEEDED OR CERTIFICATIONS NEEDED TO PRACTICE IN AN AREA AS WELL AS STATEMENTS FROM NURSES ACROSS THE COUNTRY WORKING IN THOSE AREAS AS TO WHAT THEIR SPECIALTY HAS TO OFFER. IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT THE GUIDE OR WANT TO LET ME KNOW WHERE YOUR INTERESTS LIE SO I CAN COVER THOSE AREAS MORE IN DEPTH, I'D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU! E-MAIL ME @ SINKERS [email protected]. (LOOK FOR THE GUIDE SOMETIME AFTER FEB. 2001)

:) Hello, this is my first post to the board and I was very excited to see this Joanne. I am a BSN student in my Junior year and have been searching for this such information. I can't believe how difficult it is to find up-to-date info on specialties, licensure, requirements, how much college is needed (BSN, MSN), and salaries. All of these things are important to nurses whom are getting ready to graduate and for it to be compiled all together. For example, I am definitely going for MSN once I graduate, I just haven't decided what I want to get into. Either CRNA (nurse anesthetist) or get into pediatric oncology (which I don't know much about hence the searching). I would love to be able to view all the aspects of each and requirement. Thanks and please let me know when and where this will be available for us nursing students to purchase/view!

Hi

I would also like to know some information on peds. oncology. I am very interested in this feild but do not know what requirements and education I will need to get into this field.

Thanks,

Misty

I would love to know when it is out too! I am just starting to get my prereqs out of the way! Thanks!

I think it's a great idea. It's unbelievable hard to get a lot of basic info on any specialty.

Do you have anything in there about forensic nursing? Just a thought that's crossed my mind.

I am interested in NICU nursing and maybe doing some prn in the ER. I am interested to know what I have o do to become NICU nurse. I am going to graduate in May 2002 as a RN. Do I have to have my BSN, or do I have to have some experience before I can go into NICU or before I do PRN in the ER.
