To BSN or not to BSN...

Hello allnurses!

I am about to graduate with my ADN, and am wondering if it is worth my time to pursue my BSN. I have a prior B.A., and am planning on applying to Nurse Practitioner programs in the near future. I have found a number of good programs that will accept candidates with an ADN as long as they have a prior B.A., but I am wondering if it will be easier to gain admission if I have my BSN as well. Thank you in advance for your input!

Hi there!! I would highly recommend a BSN. I think it will give you the leadership and management skills you will need to be a nurse practitioner. However, I think a nurse is a great nurse regardless of her title!! That is awesome though that you found schools that will take you as an ADN. If your budget can swing it, go for the BSN. A lot of RN to BSN programs are accelerated and will only take about a year. But in the end, follow your heart! :) Best of luck!
