Applying for nursing school, unsure if I should remain in SoCal or apply out of state

I am almost finished with my last prerequisite before I can apply to nursing school. I live in San Diego where getting into nursing school is so competitive and could take a while to even be accepted. I hear this from friends who have been trying to get accepted to those who are nurses already.

I'm thinking of transferring out of state. University of Texas at Austin has really attracted me. I am also a veteran and university offers a program called the yellow ribbon. From my understanding, they aid in paying a portion of the out-of-state fees per year. If any of the following information is worth mentioning: I have an A in anatomy, A in physiology, and B in microbiology. I have a 3.5 GPA overall.

I'm curious to know why you transferred to an out of state university to earn your BSN. Thank you for your insight!
