I wanted to start this topic so we could all comment and talk about any updates we are receiving about the 2018 CHOA Summer Externship. I applied back in December.

Got an email last week asking for references and a phone interview! I believe each unit has different protocols for the next step but I know they want to have the snurses chosen by late February, early March. Good luck to all of you!

I always like to hear other people's advice and comments, so I wanted to add mine to help someone else! I was asked about two weeks ago for references, completed that and sent it in. I was contacted by Scottish Rite ED on 2/5 and have already had an in person interview with them. They told me that they would have their final decision at the end of February! So fingers crossed :)

Also, my status on the website never changed, so I wouldn't base anything off of that. Hope everyone gets a call back, this is such a great opportunity!

That's awesome! So happy for you! I'm still waiting to hear back (they said last week of Feb or first week of March) but I was just curious, they call you either way (if you get it or not) right?

Thank you! Yeah I heard they are trying to finalize everything by the first week of March. A friend of mine just got notified yesterday about her acceptance! I am not sure if they notify you either way or not. I don't believe they do, but I could be wrong.

hey yall! I want to apply to the CHOA nursing externship program for 2019. Does anyone know when the application opens up and what stood out for you guys to be given an offer? I'm starting nursing school in the fall at Mercer and I really want to work for CHOA after I graduate, especially in their cardiac step-down unit! Did you apply during your fist semester of nursing school? Please let me know :) thanks!

It usually opens up in December. I applied when it first opened and had an online interview set up within a few days after that. Depending on the department, the unit that is interested in you will contact you further for references, an online interview, or an in-person interview. They made their final decisions at the end of February/beginning of March. Good luck! It's amazing, I am doing my externship right now and I'm in love!
