Strangers that find out you are a nurse and start asking medical questions AND expecting answers!

These young nurses werent raised with the same work ethic I was raised with

the ADN versus DIPLOMA versus BSN argument. very very tired of it.

Interesting answers. I think #1 the biggest of pet peeves is when patients or their families think the smallest of things is very, very important and you should stop what you are doing immediately to do what they want. I know, they don't know any better and to them it IS important, but it still BUGS me. #2 has to be when the family or the patient stands at the desk and waits to either speak to you or the doc taking in any and all conversation. Of course, I always ask them to wait in their room, but I can usually see they dislike this and want to listen to things that are not to be heard. It is just annoying. That's my 2 cents.

LOL, I hate the "It's not my patient" or a nurse who finds a wet or poopy patient & spends 15 minutes looking for the CNA who is busting a** taking care of 10 other patients, to go clean up that wet/poopy pt.

Edited to add:::: How on earth could I forget how much it truly pi**es me off, when we find a diabetic patient has not even been OFFERED their HS snack. . .even worse, when the next shift comes in & finds the HS snack, all snuggled under the blanket with same pt?!?!? UNREAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

biggest pet peeve.............nurses that stand around talking about the latest football game or some other idiotic sports event while I'm working my a$$ off and there are a ton of patients in ER waiting area

nurse thatwill not answer a call light and just let it continue to beep, even if you look at them an say hey that is your room they say yeah i know s/he is always on the light i will get it in a little bit. which i will go answer, i usually just go answer them anyway but if that nurse is sitting there jabbering or even doing paper work , i guess i am old school but i still think pts come first!

Oh oh - pet peeve - well, I hate to sound like Pollyanna, but at the moment I can't think of anything! I am very fortunate right now to work with an incredible group of nurses

Let's see, a nurse that looks up, sees her pt.'s call light go off, goes back to cutting out coupons, but when i come out of that room after answering the light, she says "oh sorry i didn't see it". Yeah, right, i'd almost buy that but i saw you look up at it three times, then look up the hall to see if i were coming down the hall. (and yes, i realize that there are those that legitimately did not see the light going off).

The whole "who's a real nurse" arguement where the LPN, Diploma, ADN, BSN degrees are concerned. Find something better to get on a high horse about, please.

The "nurses eat their young" phrase. Man, i'm REALLY tired of hearing/reading that one!

"That's not my pt." when the pt. is crying from chest pains and has a HR of 164 bpm.

"I need to get my aide" when someone's pt. is dirty, and the aide is a floor float for 34 other pts. And they have no inention of helping the aide.

Nurses who think that that anyone (housekeepers, aides, LPNs, maintenance people) that is not up to their educational level is beneath their dignity, and treats them that way (thinking of one in particular now who does that).

Students who got into nursing for the sake of finding a doctor to marry.

Wow, I couldn't agree more. Like helloooo, the vent is alarming and your loved one's O2 Sat is 75%, but you want me to fluff the patient's pillow right this very second?! :chuckle

Here's another: when the pt.'s FAMILY requests a bunch of stuff for themselves (pillows, blankets, sheets, crackers) and the pt. requests nothing but quiet time. Then whenthe pt. is discharge, the room is mysteriously stripped before housekeeping gets there, phone and all.
