I applied and was accepted to the BSN-DNP. Took one class. I enjoyed it and learned a lot, but decided to get my MSN elsewhere- their part-time option was a five-year plan, with no MSN exit point.

I will likely return to the MSN-DNP portion of the program after I graduate.

Thanks a lot SHGR. Is this program more classroom based, or online focus. I'm trying to get a realistic understanding of remaining a full time employed nurse or should I consider part-time status at my hospital. I really appreciate your post on this matter, as you know this level of education can be intense. Thanks again SHGR

The BSN-DNP is mixed online and classroom. Post-MSN completion is online only. You are right, it is an intense level of education! Personally I feel that part-time work is the best way to go for anyone in a graduate nursing program. Work keeps you current, but full-time work is demanding enough without adding study and discussion on top of it. (I've been doing 0.6 FTE throughout and that's been the right balance for me, but YMMV).

I have to say that the one online class I took there was intense, the instructor was wonderful, and the other students really created a rich online discussion environment.

I'll probably re-start the DNP there soon (in the next couple years), or possibly the PhD.

Which focus are you looking at? for BSN to DNP they have FNP, CNS, leadership/informatics, and Community/public health.

FNP has always been my choice. I chose this for personal and professional reasons. One of my sisters in Puerto Rico is an NP and she absolutely loves it. She has been trying to get me to move back home. I have another sister who lives in Miami who also is an Advanced degree nurse working in family practice. I also work with 3 DNP's who happen to be very good friends of mine, who are planning on opening a clinic next spring. I have a great support group. With my surgical background and 20 years in the Operating Room, I'm hoping to learn new things and create a new and exciting pathway to continue helping the world! Thanks SHGR..
