How to break into the acute nurse management field?

Specialties Case Management

I am at a loss after resigning as a director of nursing for a home health company. I have been a nurse for almost 18 years, but I've been all over the place:I did clinic nurse x 1 yr, then school nurse fx 6 yrs, did ICU for almost x2 yrs then PDN x 1 yr.I did home health case management x 4 years, did med surg x 3yrs and the last 1 yr as a DON while working prn in the pediatric ER. I have tried applying as a case manager at diff hospitals. No one would like to take me in as I am considered inexperienced.I have other job offers as a DON again at a home health, another as ER nurse. One LTAC wouldn't even want to put me in management position bec I was told my management experiences were only home health related. I was offended by this bec I feel management is still management regardless where you go(the basics of it). My question is how do I go about breaking into nurse management position(s) in an acute care set up. I plan to start my MSN(nurse admi) this year but what if nobody hires me here in Texas bec of lack of experience. Please help/guide me. Thanks!
