Getting through the door

Specialties Case Management

Case management has always interested me and it sounds like it can be a very flexible job. My problem is getting through the door. Many co's ask for prior experience but you can't get it if they won't hire you without experience.

I have been an RN for 8 years with the last 2 1/2 in home care. Knowing what I do in home care, I think it has lots of case management issues in it. Not only do I perform clinical nursing care, but there is much more in the way of coordinating care, dealing with medical practitioners, ins. co's, employers and the family.

For those of you with experience in case management, do you think the background I have described to you would get me off to a good start in case management?

Thank you,

Ann

Definitely.

I had done Case Management in home care for 18 years, when I applied for and got the job to do Case Management for a Medicare MCO. When you update your resume, be SURE that it places emphasis on your experience in Case Management. Get a copy of your present job description (if you need to), and go from there.

You might also go to http://www.ccmcertification.org/, and look over their six major components of Case Management. They also have several links to other valuable websites, which can assist you. Good luck!:)
