CM Certification- how long did you take to study for your CCM exam?

by Lizzy6

Hi. Just purchased "A Case Manager's Study Guide, Preparing for Certification", 2nd edition by Denise Fattorusso and Campion Quinn, which also came with the practice CD questions.

My question is to those who have already taken the exam, how many months did you study in prior to taking the exam? I figure I would read and do the exam questions on the CD. Thanks so much!

For me, the process took six months. I purchased and read twice, from cover to cover The Case Manager's Handbook by Catherine Mullahy. I'm glad I did, for the CCM exam covered many topics discussed in her book. Good luck!

Hi. Thanks for the tip regarding the study time and also for the book title, will check out Amazon.com, to see if there are any used ones. Usually you can find one cheap that is used. Again, thanks for replying, just wasn't sure of a time frame for me to prep. I most likely will have to read it cover to cover x2 too!

Lizzy6, I spent three months reviewing. I purchased the certistep disc (it offered a money back guarantee) and went through that and read (reviewed) through Catherine Mullahy's book. The exam is broken up in two parts. I finished each part with time left to spare. I wish you the best on your exam.

Hi Mijourney. Thanks for replying and giving me a time frame too! I too would like to take it in 3-5 mos if possible. What exactly is the name of the certistep disc your purchased? I would like to order it. If you could please reply or pm regarding the disc, would really appreciate it. Thank you so much and happy new year!

I just did a search for the Certistep CCM software, saw it for $249 & the money back guarantee sounds great, just in case! Thanks for the tip!

I took last Case Management Certification test, on November 2007. I studied the Fattorusso book , second edition -page by page and question by question-, plus "Core Curriculum for Case Management" by Suzanne K. Powell, over 3 months. Guess what!! I did not pass for just 3 questions. This test was not related at all with any of these books. Obviously they help, but the questions were long and confused. The answers were too close to know which one they wanted us to answer ( I do not mean the right one because there were more than one correct). It helped me more my own experience than the books. I feel frustrated and disoriented.
Could anybody give me some tips for next time!? Thank you

I tested in 11/2007 as well and passed (passes didn't get scores this year) I didn't have the difficulty with the questions that you mentioned...just thought some of them were goofy. If it's just the questions and not the content, I would suggest getting a couple of different test bank CDs and drilling them down like nobody's business. You can also use them to guide areas that may need additional review. And of course, know that glossary. You can obtain that on the CCMC website. I made flashcards of all the terms, and that worked well for me.
Good Luck when you retest!!!!

Congratulations!, and thank you very much for your input. I already had printed the glossary and I started -again- right there. Regarding to the CDs, I just saw one (on Internet) and it cost $300!!! (900 questions). Any suggestion about where to get those test bank CD,s?? Let me know and thanks again

Nurse Re: CM Certification- how long did you take to study for your CCM exam?
I am exploring many areas and methods of preparing for the CCM certification. I like the sound of CertiStep CD but it is very expensive. I have tried to find a used Certistep CD for less but have been unable to locate one. Any suggestions out there?
