Dumas, AR?

U.S.A. Arkansas

Published

Hello all,

I'm a new RN (less than 6 months experience) & I have been considering a move to Dumas AR to work at Delta Memorial Hospital. I know it is a very small hospital which I feel would be a good fit for a newbie like me. I understand that it is a small rural area which is fine with me. I would like any info that any of you may have on Dumas & the surrounding area as well as the hospital. I know that Pine Bluff is about 40 mins away so I would be fine with living in an area half-way between Dumas & Pine Bluff. I would like to know the good, the bad, & the ugly about the area.

I live in a small rural area & have lived in small towns all my life so another small town doesn't really bother me. I just need a change from western KY & I understand that Pine Bluff has a pretty decent 4-yr college.

Thanks!!!

Dawn

I grew up in Pine Bluff, and still live pretty close to the area. I also have family around Dumas. To be perfectly honest with you, it's not a good place. The Pine Bluff area has one of the highest rates of violent crime (per capita) in the nation. The area is pretty unsafe.

As far as stuff to do, Dumas has nothing at all & Pine Bluff's selection is limited. Apparently the mall in PB is hanging on by a thread ... from what I hear, about half of the stores in it are out of business. There's one big Wal-Mart which is usually packed. There are 2 chain restaurants (not fast food) in PB: Chili's and Red Lobster. The college is in a pretty sketchy area of PB.

I know this reply is kind of a random smattering of info. I really don't know anything about the hospital in Dumas, but if you have any specific questions, let me know.

(FYI, northwest Arkansas is beautiful & there are several rural areas if that's your interest.)

That's all I need to know. I'll let the recruiter know that I pass!

Take care all!

Dawn
