YES, I WORK IN A PHYSICIAN OFFICE. THIS IS A NEW AREA FOR ME, COMING FROM ED. BACKGROUND. FOUND IT TO BE MUCH MORE OF A CHALLENGE THAN I THOUGHT. I'D LOVE TO EXCHANGE INFO AND IDEAS WITH YOU.

Hope this post doesn't repeat itself-I'm not sure if I already "sent" it. I have been working in a private practice with 3 Family Practitioners for the past 6-7 months and thoroughly enjoyin it. My previous background was Home Health and Administration before that. My Doc is pretty good about letting me do patient teaching-especially in the areas I am very interested in-Diabetes and Osteoporosis. I am trying to set up a central education resource center for all of us and am wondering if anybody has ideas, feedback on how to best set it up. Right now we have several general areas filled with the typical pamphlets, patient education handouts, etc---I would appreciate some thoughts. Thanks!

I'm an RN who has been working at a large multi-practice clinic with a family practice/OB physician for the past 3/12 years. I have found it to be very rewarding and have learned a tremendous amount during that time. I would love to hear from any other RN's working in family practice and/or OB offices to get input on how their workload is and how the responsibilities are decided upon and assigned. I'd love to share ideas and if anyone knows of any nursing journals/mailings/seminars that pertain to office nursing, please let me know. Thanks.

I have worked in a large family practice setting for 18 months as a Nursing Supervisor/Office Coordinator with a staff of 12 nurses. I find it to be one of the most rewarding and challenging fields of nursing to be in. It allows a great deal of autonomy and critical thinking in assessment, triage, patient teaching, and patient care. We even have a career ladder to allow advancement for those displaying leadership skills and who want to be positive role models and preceptors for newer nurses. A "must have" for everyone who assesses patients as part of their day. Make your job easier ... have a tool that will organize and streamline your day!

I am an RN working in a Dermatology office. I have also worked for several Gen-
eral & Vascular surgeons & a Cosmetic surg-
eon for many yrs.
Office nurses work pretty hard, although
I think some hospital nurses don't think so.
I rarely sit down during the day.
Office nursing has changed tremendously
over the yrs, since I've been working. What
with ICD9 & CPT codes, HMO'S & who can forget
those referrals, it will never be the same.
Thank God patients still respond to a smile
and a kind word.
