Hi Im new to the board, all your threads are great! :)
Basically Im looking for someone in Canada (toronto-hamilton) to point me in the right direction into nursing. I am starting from the bottom.
Currently all I have is a 3 year diploma from Mohawk College (different field not related) and I'm working at a retirement home/LTC/respite but I do not have any certificates to work there (you dont need to at this place). All I know is that I love my job for the first time in years and I'm willing to go beyond where I am.
I would like to be an RPN.
Are there any part time courses for this anywhere?
Am I correct in understanding that I will need to get a 2 year diploma in Practical Nursing before going through the RPN course?
Im so confused, I barely know what Im talking about so hopefully someone on here can help me :)
Thanks :)

Check out the Universities in your area. I believe that there are several in the Toronto area that have nursing programs. Ontario now requires that all registered nurses have four year degrees. I am not aware of you needing to get your PN program completed as a prerequisite. I would suggest that you contact your board of nursing for your province and find out what the exact rules are. They would be the best to give you the info that you need.
Good luck.............(I used to live in the Detroit area so I am quite familiar with the area where you live)

Hi there,
If you are still in Hamilton, go back and talk to the people at Mohawk College, they have a nursing program there.

You have to take a community college course that is 2 years long to be an RPN in Ontario. To be a RN you have to go to university for 4 years.

To my understanding most colleges offer the Practical nurse program. It is 2 years and then you write your Registration exam. When you have passed that your a RPN :)
I live near Ottawa and I do know that Algonquin College offers the course.
Good Luck !!!
Thanks for your help everyone.
So far all I know is HUMBER offers it...but that's slightly far.
Im goign to keep looking though

Hello! I'm also new to the board! But I have some idea on part time course for RPN.
There is Flexible part time RPN course at Centennial College. The flexible model route is 3 days per week, three semesters per year and availability is dependent on demand.
My husband is also planning to take RPN course and this is what we have research.
I hope this could help you. Have a nice day!

I don't know of this helps but Georgian College offers the rpn part time at at least a couple of campuses. I am just starting my second year and am really loving it. Good luck.

Check out the community college closet to you. See what they have. My understanding is that most have the RPN course full-time, and may offer some of it part time.
Best of luck,
