  1. To my understanding most colleges offer the Practical nurse program. It is 2 years and then you write your Registration exam. When you have passed that your a RPN :) I live near Ottawa and I do know that Algonquin College offers the course. Good Luck !!!
  2. Wow well said !!! Nothing makes me more bitter then a daughter/son of a patient telling you what to do when the patient themselves is capable....
  3. Our policy is alike to others.. no restraints is first We use ALOT of tabs monitors..if your not familiar with them there a clip which is attached to a box. You clip it onto the residents clothing and when they get up it rings the call bell and sounds an alarm. There great !! Also we use alot of pool noodles under the sheet at the side of the bed , a foam mattress on the floor is great to. We have few residents with 2 side rails and if they do they are by the families choice. No lap belt restraints used... tables on broda chairs for very frail residents.
  4. We use ALOT of zinc and vaseline mixed together. Don't ask me how it works but it does. Now i'm from ONtario so are products will vary no doubt. But we use alot of Cavilon. It looks like a white lotion and it works wonders on stage 1's especially the coccyx.. I'm on mat. leave so I can't even tell you what the company is called. But try the mixture of zinc and vasiline. ITs great for reddened areas.
  5. I'm just wondering if the money is just as good when your self employed. I have often thought about doing that. I worked for a month with a company called para-med. They provide home nursing. A family wanted me to sit in a room with there 80 some year old mom and watch her sleep.. in the dark... for 12 hours lol. Sorry I had to share that. :rotfl:
  6. Wow how awful. Its like you have all the time in the world to sit and write a 15 page essay..:rotfl: Ours are one sheet front and back. We have a skin protocol for brusing , fall assesments and a head injury protocol if needed. Why is it that the people that design these sheets think nurses have all this extra time on there hands. I hate the paper work crap of nursing !!! :chuckle
  7. I live around the Pembroke area and RPN's can work in any hospital that i'm aware of. Arnprior , Renfrew , Pembroke, Deep River etc. When I worked in Arnprior we had alot of the same duties as the RN. We would have the same patient number but they weren't acute care. We gave there 12pm meds and helped with doctors orders. Make sure you look around...there are alot of openings for RPN's still.
