Hey everyone! I was just wondering for those who work night shift and get a weekend shift differential, when does weekend shift start and end for your hospital? Is Friday night considered weekend at your hospital? Is Sunday night? Also, if you don't mind, how much is your night shift differential, and how much is your weekend shift differential?

Our night shift and weekend shift differentials are $3 each.

Hi

I've worked nites for MANY years.

Our weekend is Sat & Sun nites.

Our nites diff is $3.00/hr & weekend diff is $2.50/hr/

I work for a large organization that has a number of hospitals & clinics in Illinois. My hospital is in Chicago & is a trauma center.

Our diffs are $5 night and $5 weekend. Our weekend nights are Friday and Saturday.

In my travel contracts, that has varied widely (and not always as the hospital does for its own staff). Where I'd worked for years before the travel job, weekends were from 7 pm Friday night until 7 am Monday morning. I can't recall what the w/e shift diff was; not much. Night diff was $3/hr.

ours starts at 7pm on Friday and runs until mon at 7am

Evening diff is from 7pm to 11pm, $2 per hour. Night diff is from 11p to 7am, and is $5 per hour, every night of the week. There is no weekend pay difference.

Hi Everyone,

I work Nights - my hospital pays $6.50 for weekend night shift/diff, I think it's $3.50/4 for days. An added bonus is that they pay an additional $10/hr for all weekend RN's on any shift, working in what they decide are critical areas. Funny thing - we're so short-staffed, any floor you work weekends on is considered "critical", so we all get the 10 bucks, plus the shift-diff.

Until last month, they only paid the weekend shift-diff for Sat/Sun. I work Thur/Friday/Sat nights - so Saturday nights I was making my base pay, plus an extra $16.50/hr - very nice. The Staff complained that Friday night is part of the weekend and we were all giving up "weekend" time with our families, so after lots of begging (and realizing Friday nights is their biggest "call out sick night"), 2 weeks ago, they agreed to include Friday nights after 2200 in the weekend plan.

Me and my little gang of weekend workers had fun doing the Math - we all work 4 Friday nights a month, so we just got a bonus of almost $600/month - 7 grand a year. The hospital calls it - part of their New "RN Retention Plan" - I'm calling it "My middle Son can now get his $5,000 Braces Plan"..;)

Whenever the weekday "day shift" complains about the extra money the night shift gets - we tell them to come work with us. Most say, they'd rather "Die" than work Nights and they'd never give up weekends with their families - so there you go, that's the reason most hospitals pay people more to work "horrible" hours with only a skeleton crew.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Just curious what goes on in other hospitals.

Susan...sounds like you got a good deal there! I might have to come work with you!

For years I've had this argument with the Manager that Friday night should be considered weekend but he is very day shift orientated and only considers sat/sun as weekend.I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one! Any diff we get is only for public holidays and the diff starts and stops at midnight so if you work Christmas day night shift you only get 3 hours(21.00-00.00)double time then 8 hours time and a half whereas day shift get the full double time for their whole shift, another bone of contention!
