What is statistics like?

:idea:Can anyone tell me what statistics is like? I am taking it this summer and I have no idea what to expect. I did well in Math 111 (college algebra), but I am so not a math person. It literally takes everything I have to get a B in math. I have been accepted into a nursing program(two-year) and am taking some classes this summer so that when I graduate I can go right into the BSN program. Thanks!!!

It's very basic and simple math. It's good that you're taking it in the summer because they condense it down to the important tidbits. Just pay attention to the professor as they are explaining things because they will usually (at least in my class) dumb it down enough so that anyone can understand it. I took it in maymester and it was very very simple and an easy A for everyone even those who weren't good at math. I happen to be kicka** at math so if you need any help hit me up!

its actually a very easy math class. Alot of terms and formulas, but not at all like algebra, more of advancewd arthimetic

Like the other said its easy easier than college algebra. You can check out amazon.com and they should have some supplemental books in case you find yourself struggling. I buy supplemental books (no they are not expensive) for courses I have trouble in and they are great for math because they give you extra practice problems and they can go over harder topics that the textbook doesnt explain too well. Good luck and congrats on getting into that nursing program!

I hope you used ratemyprofessor.com to find a good teacher for statistics. Its def not an easy class.

Thanks everyone for your replys!!!! I feel better already....

like you, i am not a math person. i'm taking an online statistics course now. thus far, my grades have been A's. however, i have to go to campus and take the final exam and i am so not happy about that. as long as i pass, i don't care.

Litereally the easiest math class known to man. And thankfully my last ever math class ...

Easy easy easy. I took a 4 week online section this summer (it actually ends tomorrow, but I've been done for a week now), and it was a breeze, even without an instructor to work examples. The examples in the book are more than enough, and if you understand the basic formula and type of problem, you're golden.

It's actually really boring. And kind of annoying how long it took to work through the homework, but it was an easy 'A' with minimal effort.

It's like the statistics chapter of your 12th grade textbook... spread over a longer period of time. Definitely a GPA booster.

I don't know what stats class you guys were taking. Mine was HARD!

Problem sets with 20 numbers of decimals to 6 places, complex problems that took 4 and 5 sequential formulas to solve, that had to be done by hand not with Excel. Ugh.

I too got an A. But I spent hours working and reworking problems online.

Professors usually let you make notecards of formulas. It's also not unusual to have stats tests be open book, because memorizing formulas isn't important, it's how you use them. And you need access to tables for z scores, t tables etc. that are in the book.

So have a healthy respect for it, but from other people's experience, it probably won't be so bad.

Hey its better than college algebra. The symbols actually mean somthing.

okay, after the last reply I am wondering if we are talking about the same math class. It's probability/statistics or MTH243. Most of you responded with it is very easy but the last post made me wonder, hmmmm? Let me know those of you who replied that is was easy if it was the same class I am going to be taking....Thanks you all!!
