I'm just wrapping up my first year of nursing courses and have found Pharmacology to be the most difficult - only because there's so much memorization involved. Many of my other courses are based on obtaining a certain degree of understanding as opposed to memorizing side effects, names, contraindications, etc. As far as grades are concerned - I PASSED AND DO NOT HAVE TO RE-TAKE IT...that's all that matters. ;-)
Pharmacology by far was the hardest material for me. I did not have to repeat any classes as we were self taught and only tested on the required material q4 weeks.Gosh I really hated that!!

I'm taking Pharmacology this summer.
At my school, the hardest class, so I've heard, is Med/Surg 2. Well, now they're changing the name to Adult Health Nursing 2. I've heard that's where everyone screws up.
We all say, 1st semester in nurs school is most stressful, 2nd is easiest, 3rd is hardest, and 4th is ok.
At my school only the last semester is "easy" compared to the other 3. I just started my 7 credit med/surg class that's condensed into 8 weeks. I've heard that's killer. Pharm and Patho are also considered to be rather difficult, as is Psych (6 credits).
So far I don't know anyone who's failed.
The 14-credit monster med-surg class that I'm in the middle of would certainly qualify ...
With the 960 hours of clinical associated with the above class, I am in school 32 hours per week. I am okay, but 1/3rd of the class is failing and this is the last semester. NOT easy!
I think you get out what you put in, and some people also have more interest in one area vs. another. The NCLEX doesn't look at it that way, and you have to have it all. I personally found that pysch was the worst, but put the time in and managed a B.
All nursing classes are hard, and people fail out of any one of them. If they weren't challenging, what kind of nurses would we get?
I agree with Nurse omatic. I found Maternal/baby to be most difficult I really didn't get much out of it. I made it through the class with a B and I don't know how. I am a study addict, but I just couldn't get myself to study as hard for it like I do Med/Surg. Everyone tells me I wasn't interested because I don't have any kids, I don't know what it was but I hated going to that class. The fall is my last semester and we have Med/Surg 3 and Psych I am excited about those two course and nervous at the same time. I heard that semester was harder than this semester so much so that we are starting the semester 2wks earlier. Good luck to everyone.

What was the hardest nursing class (excluding the pre-requisites) and what was your grade. Did you have to repeat a nursing class if so what is it?
