Do you want to work evenings and holidays? Do you need the extra money? Would you be happier in the hospital? Is the stress in the Dr. office less? These are the issues only you can answer. Sometimes the extra money isn't worth it if you really don't need it. Do you have children? Would being away from them in the evenings be a hardship? Don't dash into a decision. If these things are important to you, you could always look into other job options that will keep you home evenings and holidays. (In case you can't guess, I took a HUGE paycut when I left the hospital and have never looked back!) Best of luck in whatever choice you make

I know I should take the new job, but it's one I left as a floor nurse. No I really don't want to work holidays or evenings whenever I have children, but plenty of nurses make it work. My husband just ended his term of service in the army and is going to school to be a police officer and he won't have a job for the next four months. I do need the money and right now I'm working at the office and then going to the hospital on Friday after work and on Saturdays so it's not like I have a break working at the office. Should I try and bargain with the office for more money and not to work in medical records or paint??? I'm scared if I do that then they will act ugly to me and that's exactly the kind of administration they are. Has anyone ever charge nursed before? The doctor office stress is just under the hospital. We stay so busy it's ridiculous. They caught me reading a magazine the other day and I was sent to medical records. I just need ya'll to give me every bit of advice you can!

Are you prepared to quit the office and accept the hospital job if you try to negotiate and they are not receptive?

If you are, then you could go in and say that you've been offered another job but you will stay on in the office if you get X amount of $$ and no filing, painting baseboards, or scrubbing toilets.

If you're worried that you will be treated miserably in the office from that point on if you stay, then I'd say it's time to go.

I think it's time to go anyway. I think your office administration thinks it has found a nifty way of not paying another person. Once you start doing something like filing, it won't stop. And you may just end up being handed the toilet bowl brush sooner or later!

I would take the offered charge nurse job. Not a second thought in my mind.
