Our school still hasn't sent out acceptance letters but I am acting as though I received a positive reply. I have set up a bookshelf with my old textbooks and notes, paper, pens, pencils, highlighters, 3 hole punch, recorder, binders, TEAS prep materials, ruler, calculator. I cleaned out my backpack. I have started menu planning, signed up for my CRP/AED class which I take in June and have started studying for the TEAS which I am a bit worried about. I have planned the kids camps and our vacations around school start date. I have signed up for medical math and am reviewing physio. Next I am putting together my supply kit for being away all day and my lunch menus so I can have healthy meals planned. If I don't get in, I will take the last few classes I need for my BSN and then reapply next year. Oh and I did get the NCLEx review as another poster suggested and have been doing practice questions just for fun. I like that it includes the rationale behind the answer so if I get it wrong, I can read why. I have to say I am pleasantly surprised to be getting many right. THe final thing is I am going to do is write myself a contract for staying healthy and getting my exercise/meditation in daily. I refuse to let my hard work slide.
Let me know what you are doing!

I am accepted for this fall's class. Everything is revolving around me getting ready! I also have a bookshelf all set up. I have recently been on a quest for the world's most comfortable nursing shoes for those long clinical days. (I went with Birkenstock Alpro!) I am working on my family being more self sufficient, like getting my almost 16 year old ready to get his driver's license. I am letting my hair grow a little so it can be pulled back, I bought a new laptop to load my books on. I'm getting the house in order, all work done by the time school starts....the list goes on and on! I am scared to death....but really excited, too.

I start in September (yay!)...
I have downloaded some podcasts for medical terminology, and one podcast review of a "Fundamentals of Nursing" textbook. It's helping me to get familiar with the material I'll learn in my first quarter of school.
I have also rented some NCLEX review books from the library and bought some dosage calculation books from half.com. My friend was in the same nursing program a couple of years ago and dropped out, so she gave me all of her old textbooks. She also gave me a handbook about assessments and one on lab results that I will start looking at soon. So yeah, just trying to read a bunch to give myself an idea of what to expect.

Jennafezz, can you point me in the direction of the podcasts you found? I'm pretty good with terminology (been in the field 10 years) but would love to listen to the podcasts anyway. I spent all last week searching for nursing podcasts and didn't really find much.
Thanks!!!!
And FWIW, I've just been trying to get all my ducks in a row in regards to school in the fall. I have way too much going on to make any other real plans (that is too far from now) but I have been thinking about trying to get a list of textbooks early so I can start searching for used/older editions.
Mine are called "Online College: Medical Terminology" (five separate podcasts) and "F.A. Davis Fundamentals of Nursing", which is one podcast with like 45 chapters or something.

Hi! I start in September, and our book list just went online this week. I found great deals on half.com for my textbooks, and will probably glance over them (at least pathophys) before getting started. I have a great watch and shoes that I bought when I got my CNA, so I'm looking about for other goodies like a nice stethoscope. I bought an NCLEX review book and I've been going through the test-taking skills sections of it, since we were told that all of our exams in the program will be set up like the NCLEX. I have all the usual financial aid stuff/forms/bureaucratic stuff from the university itself to work on during the summer that I'm slowly but surely completing. Otherwise, I'm working out more so I'll have better stamina for long clinical days and study sessions and relaxing and having as much fun as I can fit in this summer so I'll be ready to go in the fall. :)

You all make me feel like a big ol' slacker. I haven't done anything to get ready for the Fall. I've just been working and enjoying the summer. :)

Must be nice peas&carrots to enjoy your summer. I'm so "J". My last pre req final at the junior college was May 12. I had to start on my nursing homework on May 3. The first day of school for the University Nursing progra is June 7 which I will have a test on the 9 chapters of med and probable the 4 module on the ati site, so I haven't had a chance to prepare. I've been kind of busy trying to get all the paperwork done for the clinical.

Right now I'm just relaxing and getting my forms in. I did start some simple math conversions, like kg to lbs and vice versa just to start out with. I'll look up a little med terminology since we don't get a class or book for that. I'm doing my CPR, background and drug screening in June. I've already had my physical and my doc has the form which hopefully she won't lose! Other than that I'm taking it easy, I don't have a booklist yet and orientation isn't until Sept 1st. I'll get the NCLEX review book and HESI book (we have exit exams) sometime in August.
