WGU - RN to BSN - 90 hr clinical requirement. How are you meeting it?

I have my first task phone call to prepare for that tomorrow am. My understanding is, is that you set up interviews and observation times on your own and you work on your own schedule. I will let you know more tomorrow.

I would also like to know this information. I am also in this program and just found out this week about this requirment. Can I do these hours at my job without pay, I've been a nurse for 7 years. Thank you for any insight into this!

I just finished the program yesterday with the practicum being my last assignment handed in. It depends on what state your in, as there are about 5 states that are regulated meaning you have guidelines to follow and must have a preceptor to ok your hours. The practicum has to cover a community health issue for example I did obesity for my county. I went to weight watchers, gyms, went to parks to view physical activity etc. It takes some time to get 90 hours, I completed in 3 weeks (30hrs ea) but you have to do task 1 of HAT first as alot of info from that paper goes into your practicum paper. Its not bad at all very doable, but its strictly community work. They want to see communication with the varying health depts as well, can just be an email or phone calls. All of your time is calculated in, even travel to and from sites. They also give you 10 hrs to begin from research done from the HAT1 paper so you only need 80. The only regulated state I'm aware of is California, your mentor will be able to tell you if your in one as I couldn't find anything in taskstream to tell me what the states are. Sorry to dredge up an old post, but does anyone have any information on this statement? I can't find anywhere in the coursework or in the webinar that says that we get 10 hours of credit on our HGT timelog for the research done in HAT1. Anyone know if this is true and, if so, how do we document it?

I finished my practicum in December/January of this year and that is not the case. It may have been in the past but most of your hours need to be logged on a site with someone you are talking with. You get a few hours you can use for windshield observation time...but no hours count for research or setting appointments up.

Agree with Murse and RNMommy. You do not get 10 "free" hours from your HAT project. I believe you can take up to 6 hours to do your windshield/community surveys.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a topic? I just spoke to the mentor and she said that to get the 90 hours in you need about 4 months. I can't believe that this class worth 2 units is so much work! I need to finish in 6months and having to finish all the other classes along with this one seems like a lot. She told me that you can't go in and do a clinical like for 8hours. How did everyone do this? Is there a faster way to get this class completed? Help please!!!!!!!!!!

My topic was disaster planning and I finished in one month exactly. Depending on your topic, you can do classes, live webinars, long site tours... for disaster your local cert or fire station training sessions are good for hours.

This is going to be my next course and I have been wondering what types of community health topics did people do....and who did you work with in the community???
