Unbelievable !!

A coworker was telling me of a MA student that was doing clinical in a doctors office. For some reason the MA student could not get the B/P of the patient using the arms, so she attempts to take the B/P from the neck !

Thank goodness the doctor walked in as she was inflating the cuff.

Scary.

OOOKKKAAAYYYY!!!! Well, that was one student who really didn't think things thru now wasn't it! I can't imagine the patient was to swift either if they allowed the student to attempt it! Tho in the patients defense... dementia or youth may have played a role in them allowing anyone to try this.

Sounds like an urban...or should I say hospital...legend :D

Like the student nurse who was asked to get a butterfly (aka winged infusion cannula) and was found hours later in the garden.

Or the nurse doing her theater rotation who was asked to fetch the Otis elevator...

Not sure if I believe the story; however, if it is true the lack of common sense is just plain scary.

Urban legend.

Haha! BTW - - my first roommate in nursing school asked about taking a BP around the neck. But only asked!! She later became an occupational therapist......

You're right. That story is "unbelievable."

Sorry, not buying it.

Too stupid to be true lol

We just had a nursing student pull out an ETT instead of the esophageal temp probe.

The list of things a student can do to a patient is endless if given the opportunity when their assigned preceptor for the day turns their back for just a second.

Of course if one is talking about a rival school or a profession considered to be very "different" than you own, by the time the story is passed along through the channels of gossip, it becomes almost urban legend quality.

Urban legend for sure (almost:confused:) but it sure did wake me up!!!! PRICELESS!!!!!!:yeah:

In nursing school, I tried to take an apical pulse with my first and second fingers pressed against the chest.
