Kind of a silly question, but is anybody superstitious or slightly obsessive when it comes to applying for jobs? For example, do you only call recruiters at a certain time of day or do you stare at your phone expecting it to ring for a job?

This is a silly topic, but they way the job market is now, I wouldn't be surprised if this was considered normal. Ha!:)

Did a black cat cross your path?

Well you'll fit right in when you get a job. A lot of nurse are VERY superstitious. LOl.

I haven't met a nurse yet that isn't superstitious! If you want to grind a nurse's gears all you've got to do is say, "Hey it's been calm and quiet all day huh!"

We NEVER, EVER use the "q" word at work. We also do not speak the names of frequent flyers. Somehow we think if we say their name out loud, they will shortly be admitted to the floor.

Glad I read this, I needed a giggle! Thanks guys n gals! LOLLLLL the Q word!!!!

Never report out saying Mr. Smith had no problems. He'll be a sinch for you tonight!. It's a sure-fire curse for a new nurse. =)

I follow all those "rules" at work too. But back to your applying for jobs question, whenever I get a job interview I never, EVER, tell anyone that I have a job interview. That way I don't get asked, "How did it go?" kind of questions after the interview is over and before I have an answer on the job. Then if I don't get the job I don't have to explain it and be embarrassed and feel bad about myself, and if I do get a job I get to call people and totally surprise them with my good news! I have been this way since I first started working odd jobs at age 16.

Some of my quirks about applying for a job are related to superstition and some are not. I never call on a Mon thru Tues if at all possible and always after lunch. Many people are just not Monday people and need a couple days to orientate themselves back into the groove. Calling after lunch is about them being in a good mood or sometimes I'll do first thing in the morning before they start getting all busy if they've told me to call them in the morning.

I do own two pairs of good luck earrings, one lucky vest and a dress blazer that is so striking I always wear it for first impression interview. Sometimes I'll read my horoscope on the internet to see what's up before going to an interview. I also have been know to pray to a select number of Gods and I would not walk under a ladder if at all possible.

So sure, I'm a little superstitious and that's OK with me. ;)

Nope. If I'm supposed to get a job, I will. If I'm not supposed to get a job, I won't. I do my best in an interview and then wait and rest.

However, I won't cross a street if I've been near a ladder, a black cat has walked in front of me, and I spilled milk without throwing salt over my shoulder before I left for the interview :)

Ugh. I don't believe in all that nonsense.

Ha! Well, I'm glad I'm not alone. As far as being superstitious at work, I learned that very quickly at my first job and it's amazing how true that is. I could site several examples of that.
