Statistics and BioChem at WGU

Stats is definitely a difficult class. I have no experience with it at WGU but I have read in other WGU threads that stats is very doable. I know they use the statcrunch program which is a lot like using a fancy calculator to populate your answers.

The biochem class, I've read that it is challenging, but very doable and people are stating that they truly learned a lot and enjoyed the class.

Wish I had more direct experience with WGU to answer your questions, but good luck and I hope you get some replies, as I'm sure many people would like to read that :shy:

the Biochem class, can that be compared to an Anatomy class somewhat in the difficulty level?

I finished WGU's version of biochemistry in three weeks. I found the course to be tedious and childish more than anything. WGU's biochemistry was not difficult and cannot be compared to college level A&P.

For some odd reason, constructing lipid models using gummy bears and toothpicks felt cheesy, as if I was in elementary school again.

Thanks for the replies, my two anatomy classes were very intensive but I did very well in them. I think this is a route I really want to look into. Another coworker of mine I believe is going to go to WGU. So that's another plus as she will be a few months ahead of me and can give me a heads up.

These were the two classes i started with when i began the program due to my fear of taking them! I rationalized that i should get them out of the way while i was fresh and new and still energetic and excited to be in a new program. This turned out to be a good idea. I found both classes to be a challenge although biochem was less challenging and i did not really like the models making in that class, I did learn a lot. As far as statistics this class nearly had me quit. Either you hate it or love it. I never liked math or math concepts and part of the problem was probably psychological. What helped me is using all of the resources they offer on you tube and various channels. The math help line is serious business as well, they really walk you through each step. Good luck! I'm in my second semester now and no not a speed demon, just enjoying the process one class at a time.

I'm going to take the statistics course at Straighterline before I start WGU's program. I'm not sure if it's easier or better, but it's an option.

Save your money and take the statistics course through WGU. WGU's statistics course had no math or calculations, whereas Straighterline's course was harder and packed with math.

I really think statistics is such a waste of time, I feel that if you take a position in an area that is going to require you to crunch any type of statistical data then computer programs will be made available to you. But I digress, it is something that must be done and I will have to bite the bullet and get it done with. Do you think that I should start the application process now, I am not licensed yet (I take my boards in less then a week) or should I wait until I am fully licensed?

Since WGU requires you to provide an active RN license number when applying, I think you might want to wait until you are fully licensed before submitting the application. School officials will need to verify your RN licensure before granting you 50 CUs of en bloc credit.

The statistics class through WGU is not intended to make you crunch numbers, it is more so you can properly read and interpret studies and the stats within them. Necessary for EBP, which is why a lot of RN to BSN programs require it.

I don't know if you have taken Biochemistry by now, but I took it last term through WGU and it was hard (because chemistry is hard for me) but not nearly as bad as I was anticipating, and the course mentors are outstanding and very helpful! Lots of good resources to help you along, I was so afraid to take it online but in the end I think it was probably easier than in class.

I really enjoyed the Biochem through WGU. It was lots of tedious tasks and writing a few essays, but very doable and not hard. No exam or assessment to take. I just finished Statistics. I am not a math person and felt a lot of stress with the class. That being said I passed the assessment on first try. I took about 4.5 to 5 weeks to study for the exam. The course mentors are great and provide lots of resources and have a math help line that is very helpful and they want to you succeed.
