Staff Vaccines

Published

My state started phase 1B yesterday which includes childcare workers & K-12 staff.  Three of our nearby schools have either had their first vaccine clinic or set them up for this week.  I've been in contact with the dept of health, a local provider who is getting their documentation sorted out to give out vaccines, and a local pharmacy chain.  We don't have a date set yet.  I keep getting nasty emails from teachers implying I'm not trying hard enough.  I'm usually a tough person, but I just want to sit under my desk and cry.  I'm trying so hard.  I'm handling everything else--day to day stuff,  COVID stuff, my own personal stuff (obviously not handling "personal stuff" at work but I have some stressful things and that stress carries over), and now I'm being told I'm a ? nurse.  Mostly by those I rarely interact with.  The ones who I see daily are all just excited at the thought of a vaccine.  I'm sad and just needed to vent.

Um I would be passing that kind of hostility on to an admin. ?  No one, NO ONE, deserves to be treated like that!  Especially someone who has basically no control over how this vaccine is rolled out.  Ugh, this really makes me angry on your behalf.

Yep.  Goes straight to my principal to handle.

They are lucky to have you attempting to coordinate it all.  We are on our own in my district.

Why can't these teachers do some of their own leg work? Takes a few minutes to look up Vaccine Hubs and put your name on a list.

Oh, you know, I'm here to serve them 24/7.

It really is only a few (it's a group who are friends banded up to destroy me).  I have so many truly wonderful coworkers and teachers who work with me, and I with them, to get the safest care for our students and staff.

Meh. Tell them that only people you like will be able to be vaccinated...

Usually, new rollouts, like staff vaccines are announced on the main school page or in the Supt of Schools email directly to the staff after the collaboration of the nurse supervisor. Even the updates or delays are handled by Admin. not the nurse. This should not be on your shoulders alone. That sounds like a few rude ungrateful staff people.  I would ask the dept of health how to send out a notice of the delay with the vaccines to you pass along.

(((Hugs for you, Brisket)))

Thanks everyone.  My principal has told all staff to stop bothering me about vaccines ?  I've shared with a few confidants what's been going on and man are they out there getting angry for me.  I'm so thankful to have this space to vent to people who really "get it."

Teachers have been particularly hard this year. They're behaving like entitled little brats in some cases. I've never had my judgement questioned like I have this year. My administrator and I have been accused of 'hiding' Covid cases from them.  Teachers believe they have the right to know the names of any and everyone that tests positive on the campus. It's insanity.

I think the pandemic in general has brought out the nutty in some nuts.  I swear I've seen some people in my life who I used to think were rational, caring adults spout off some extreme nonsense.

Most of our teachers, especially those juggling the most, have been great.  But man the complainers have doubled down and are screaming their complaints from the rooftops.
