We have submit time sheets and they are to be approved be our supervisor by a certain day for payroll to process. Well, mine hasn't been approved and we are well past that processing day. I reminded the supervisor twice and she stated "I'll get to it right now" and never did. So I won't be paid for a full 40h week of work on this check at least. Should I go to payroll or the labor department?
I've had so many issues with this new employer I've been with for the last 4 months. The supervisor is very rude and she believes screaming and intimidating staff is the best method of management, it doesn't work on me which is why she tries to use other tactics to get under my skin like making me work in understaffed units. Or In units with bullies and now, not paying me. It is a city job in a new state and I was told that working for the city is always better than private hospitals as far as benefits because the pay is the lowest compared to private.

Go to HR and if you don't have a check cut within 24 hours for what you are owed contact your state Department of Labor. Not sure what state you're in, but I just pulled up Indiana and on the main page is a link 'file a wage claim'.

Agreed. If HR won't address it within in a timely fashion (should be pretty immediate) then contact labor dept.

You are astute to realize this "forgetting" is not by chance. She is trying to get your goat. HR might give you the runaround despite your offer to sit in the office while they cut a check. In that case, drive straight home and file the Labor Board complaint online. You can't pay your rent or mortgage with your supervisor's ill will. And I would shine up the resume if I were you.

And they'll try to tell you they can't get you a check that quickly, that you'll have to wait for the next scheduled payday. That's happened to me. That's when you mention DOL and, depending how irritated you are, the word "lawyer". And don't forget to mention that you expect this to never happen again.

I have heard dreadful stories like this that end up “We came to work and found the doors locked because they went bankrupt and we never got paid.” Get your money now while you can, and run.

Any time you have not been paid is a red flag. Whether the manager has it out for you, whether the facility is going under, or whatever may be going on... start looking.
Any updates?

Hello, sorry for the delay in my response.
I ended up calling off the day I posted and as soon she saw I called off, she approved my hours worked. This place is amazingly terrible. I don’t know how to report my concerns. I feel trapped and bullied here and it’s hard to find work in NYC so I feel obligated to stay. ?

What's keeping you tied to NYC besides the lack of available U-Hauls? Even if you don't feel like jumping ship just yet, it wouldn't hurt to have your resume updated and to spend some time browsing the job sites. It never hurts to have a backup plan, even if you never use it.

It’s everyone telling me to stay at the job for the benefits. It’s a city job with NYC Health and Hospitals. Free health insurance, a pension, etc. I don’t think I can handle the torture that comes with it anymore though. I’m not sure if it’s worth it.

Those are nice bennies. But being screamed at and not being paid takes some of the shine off things. Don't listen to "everyone". Start looking around for yourself to see what's out there. Just doing that is more empowering than not doing it. Good luck.
