So Embarrassing

I did everything in my power to ensure I wouldn't work with babies. They cry too much and it interferes with my progress in candycrush.

I also seem to think no one is taking me seriously here.

I have asked my patients before if they have "poopies"! Sometimes I really have to stop before I speak! Usually they just laugh and I explain I have a 3 yr old and a 10 month old.

LOL... something similar happened to me also. :)

do you know how many patients I've asked if they need to use the potty?

I just finished potty training my son so after I pulled my pts foley I told her to let me know once she urinated. She called me in and said she went and I said in my sticky sweet mommy voice "good job!". I immediately apologized and explained we were potty training at home and it was a habit. Thankfully she laughed and didn't take offense.

Probably 30 years ago I worked on a surgical unit in a hospital that had a cat problem in the basement. Every now and then we had problems with fleas. One morning I was doing a pre-op prep for a back surgery, then was to give the pre-po IM injection. The gentleman was lying in the prone position, looking away from me, and just as I was getting ready to give the injection, a flea jumped right where I was aiming!! Not knowing how to deal with that (I was a fairly new nurse at the time), I reached over and pinched the flea between my thumb and finger. Unfortunately, the gentleman thought I was showing interest!! He turned his head and winked at me!! I was so embarrassed and my co-workers kept it going for months!

I told a patient that I needed to examine both feet since he had only pulled off one shoe. He was an amputee.

I told my patient to take off his feet and hop into bed. He & his wife burst out laughing, and I thought, "Huh?"

He then removed his shoe with the artificial foot attached!

I once told visitors (who obviously weren't fluent English speakers) that the nurse they're looking for was currently tied up at the moment. they clearly took it as literal and had a very puzzled look on their faces. I'm so used to figure of speeches it didn't even occur to me that someone else would misconstrue that.

In clinical I had to fart so bad I let one rip in the hallway when the coast was clear, then went in to the patient's room. And then I realized they could hear everything in that hallway from the room.
