I just wanted to say that I had an awesome shift last night!
My patients were all great...every one of them had a sense of humor and appreciation for the staff.
I had enough free time that I was able to help out with the complete cares on the floor and rescue one of my fave co-workers who was totally dumped on by the nurses he followed.
I got to do several blood draws...I love doing hard sticks.
And I left on time!
I wish every shift was as good. I guess that's one good thing about the bad shifts....they really make you appreciate it when a great one comes along.

lol. I suppose we do tend to only post about the crappy shifts. This is refreshing. Thanks!

I too had an awesome shift! It was my turn to float which is usually a bad omen, and right after report a patient called with a painful infiltrate...
But, the PICC RN was able to restart it, I was able to give the patient her pain and nausea meds, and establish a schedule for her prns.
My other patients were very kind, only one missing med, and my CNA was awesome. I had time to answer lights for my co-workers, teach, chart, eat and pee.
Wow, I could get used to this!

My last shift was also a dream shift ! Only five patients, no admits, every pt was pleasant, nobody asked for pain meds all night, only issue was an IV that went bad, had time to eat, pee, and be bored! It was the kind of shift that the dayshift staff seem to think we get every night .

Good. With all these dream shifts, we'd need to start a new thread just for them and being thankful:) So that when things seem hard, we can pull it up and remember that things WILL get better.
