Rotations????

Good morning, fellow life-savers!! Just wondering if other schools place students in "rotations" this time of year. By this I mean, students are taken out of their regular classrooms (where they already have trouble concentrating) and placed in 'classroom' areas that are set up in the gym. This involves literally moving the entire classroom tables and chairs, etc. I am so upset and outraged by this!! I am really concerned for my ADHD students who already have distraction issues! Sorry for the rant, just wondering if other schools do anything like this?? The noise level is outrageous, and my heart breaks for my students! Thank you for listening, have a terrific Tuesday!

This sounds odd. Whats the reasoning behind it? Our grades move into "study groups", of maybe 5-6 kids around a table with a para, but its in an existing classroom, and only for a short time, like 30 minutes. And some kids will do part of a day with our SPED staff and part in a classroom. But we don't move entire classes.

Thanks for your reply. I can't see any reasoning behind it. It's almost like setting kids up for failure! And, not to mention the fact that if 'classrooms' are set up in the gym, they won't be able to have gym in the gym...not sure how that's going to work, since physical exercise for all students is a requirement!! We won't talk about the safety hazards with cords running every which way on the floor. Give me strength!!

The only was I can see this making sense is if there are classrooms getting pained or new carpet. Or if the whole grade needs to have a class together for some reason.

I can't think of an academic reason to do that...it's likely a staff relief issue. We are approaching the time of year for "extra" recess which has nothing to do with student benefit.

Most of our classes had extra recess yesterday in anticipation of the massive amount of snow that we're supposed to get today and tomorrow!

Are they doing special lessons?

This week is a crazy week for the students here. We have a leadership day tomorrow with shortened schedules and special afternoon classes being held in different locations, Thursday is health day where it's another shortened schedule with elongated classes to go over health and development topics, and friday is spring party day so another crazy short schedule (but at least they spend the day in their correct room)

My husband is a 5th grade science teacher and he has set up things like this in preparation for big testing days. Each teacher is teaching science in a different environment. Crazy testing make for crazy days!

We have students that are taken out in small groups from classrooms depending on if they need extra ELA or some kind of help. But they go to that teachers class, or office. Is it something like that, or is it a space issue?

Same here. We have normal classes and never had this before.
