Rant About the Administrator

I don't really expect an answer...just need to vent. My admnistrator is not a good manager. He tells the CNAs how hard HIS job is. Really? You're telling this to kids who make 10-15 dollars an hour and spend their day wiping butts and getting beaten up, but your job is hard.He says staff morale is bad but doesn't have the self awareness to see most of the problems come from his crumby attitude. I have people in my office in tears because of the way he treats them. We don"t have much of a corporate structure....he's been with the company for years and they like him. I don't know what to do.

You can't think of ways to occupy him in his office or off-campus like you would a bothersome child? JK

I was thinking of hiring some half naked women to occupy his time.

You're the DON/DNS whatever you call it in your facility, right CapeCodMermaid? Have you every said anything to him about it? I have a very green to being an administrator and in my company, administrator. I tell him all the time what he should and should not say. I understand that your administrator has been with the company a long time, have you? I still would tell him what is up, and let him know that it makes him look and sound ridiculous. Ugh! Must be nice to make so much money and make people feel so small!!!!

I've spoken to him on numerous occasions. It doesn't help. He is not at all self aware and getting worse by the day.

"I have people to whom you are a mentor and leader coming to me daily regarding your poor attitude towards them and your job. I would like to have a meeting with you on Friday. At that time, you are to provide me with a self improvement plan. Should you not be able to provide one, one will be provided for you. I would like you to concentrate on improving staff morale, your professional attitude adjustment befitting a manager, and your active engagement on your floor. In our meeting, we shall discuss timeline. Because you have been with this facility for multiple years, I am giving you the opportunity to self improve with my supervision and guidance. However, if needs are not met, I will have to start a formal disciplinary process."

As long as he keeps the budget in line, the corporation is going to love him. Admins often have so little oversight (other than how the budget looks) that they really don't have to develop as leaders.

I have a great admin right now, but unfortunately I'm a traveler. Soon I will get to meet my next admin.

After bringing the facility from 2 stars to 5 stars and after being the driving force behind the only two perfect surveys the building ever had, I have been fired. I'm in shock and very angry.

One door slams shut, another one will open.

I am sorry to hear this. It's ridiculous but I have experienced something similar this January. It's ridiculous to be terminated when all of the metrics that a DON is hired to improve are actually dramatically improved.

Something is going on. The DNS from a sister facility was fired one week after she got a perfect survey. I'm sure I'm better off.

So sorry to hear this! Bet it won't take long for them to realize they made a mistake letting you go. Take some time for yourself to regroup & come back out swinging!

Sorry to hear!! It's always a fear of mine. I hope you find something better in a place that deserves you!!!
