Random thought of the day

I love our 2 SROs, but it wigs me out that they are carrying loaded weapons. I'm a weird southerner who doesn't love her guns.

If I let myself think about the number of complete rednecks out there carrying concealed I would never leave my house!

Are they police officers? If so that would not bother me at all - now random "mall cop" type of security people I would give a side eye and question. Our SRO's are actual police officers employed by the city.

When we had them, they were sheriffs, I never gave it a second thought. They had to remain fully armed because in case of emergency they would get called out to the accident, robbery, or whatever.

My husband is former military, former police officer, sniper trained, avid hunter. Although I'm not a gun user myself, I've gotten very comfortable being around them. That said - I feel safe around TRAINED people. Like the others pointed out, if its just Joe Blow off the street protecting me, not so much. But if they are trained personnel, I'd be fine with it.

Our SRO's are local police officers so they always carry. My brother is a police officer in another town and he recently confessed he carries concealed EVERYWHERE. I'm assuming he means at family gatherings and such but...whatever. He's a trained professional and veteran of two foreign wars so I think he can be trusted. We have a lot of gun-toting rednecks around here and honestly, I'd still trust them over the gun-toting gang-affiliated youngsters in our nearest city. The rednecks usually have some firearms training at least. These young kids carrying around guns...yikes.

I figure it's only a matter of time before they decide someone else in the school needs to be armed and the school nurse is only ever sitting in her office doing nothing (right??) so hey--arm her. Or him.

You're from the south and don't have a house full of guns? But really, those dudes and dudettes who are legal concealed permit holders make your world outside a safer place to be. It's the criminals who have weapons you need to worry about.

I don't have an issue with those who are trained. SM owns several guns and he has taken me shooting. Often, I'll be at his house and there is a gun (in a holster) nearby (important to note that he does not have young kids and if my children were to visit, the guns would be out of reach). I would not personally be comfortable carrying a gun but I would be comfortable with SM carrying one. He learned to shoot as a child younger than my kids are now.

Sweet Petunia's trigger control makes my shooting look like I'm closing my eyes and wearing boxing gloves.

The beauty of that is gun by association.

Our SRO are local PD, so well trained and I feel fine. What they have just done in NH is remove the need for a permit to carry a concealed weapon. Used to be at the discretion of the local police chiefs.

It will be interesting to see if there is any noticeable change in gun related issues.
