I have been prescribed diazepam as a muscle relaxant for some time. I prefer it to others because I don't have a lot of the negative side effects I had on other musculoskeletal meds and I am able to function and actually work, which I NEED to do. Yesterday I went to an "interview" for a private case for a baby who is still in NICU. It sounds like a nice case to have every other weekend. Anyhow, Mom asked for a copy of my BLS for HCP and when I reached into my purse to get my wallet my pill bottle for diazepam fell out unto the floor. Dad picked it up and (WHY?!) looked at the label before handing it to me. Neither parent said anything at the time and said they would call me to set up a time to meet again after the baby came home. Today I received a text message that reads: "What mental illness do you have that requires use of valium?" I couldn't stop the tears from laughter. I replied simply, "none, that I know of." I haven't heard back. I can tell now, this case will not be a good fit.

For all they know, it could have been for your child or picked up for someone else. I requested it for the morning of my colonoscopy a few years ago. I have heard of dentists using it for patients prior to a dental procedure. Some people are nuts and way too nosy!

I get it before I get an MRI... Too funny

You dodged the bullet on that one!

If they are openly that nosy, just think about how nosy they would be behind your back!

They sound like the type that would go through your bags while you're in the bathroom.

People can be silly about meds sometimes. I take Keppra and Neurontin as anticonvulsant meds. I filled in for a nurse friend, who had a private duty patient, so she could attend a family party several years ago, and as soon as I walked though the door, the adult son grabbed my backpack and went through every pocket. He even dumped the big one. and grabbed my pill container.

I set up my meds in those units with four compartments with the date of the month on both ends. I still use that system. He grabbed it and threw it without looking at the contents. He then accused me of being a "druggie." I tried to explain which meds I took and why but he was in no mood to listen to anything I had to say. His parting shot as he threw me out? "Only drug addicts who have used for too long have seizures!"

Sometimes, all you can do is to realize that some people are totally ignorant and complete jerks.

I'm sure being in your shoes, its different. But my immediate reaction is that I wouldn't have let someone do that. My bag is organized and everything has its place. Plus its just personal and wrong. I don't carry a purse. But I have a bag for work. My bag includes personal supplies for monthly use, PRN meds like Advil for a headache (I'm sure that guy would claim Advil is for hangovers though), chargers, more food than I can eat. How embarrassing for some stranger to pull out my monthly supplies or something! I'd be furious.

Wait til he has a diabetic nurse! I can see the nurse getting accused of doing drugs. How would he react if he grabbed a lancet or needle that accidentally got uncapped?

Funny story...when I was a kid, my sister soiled her underwear (she was maybe 5-6) and she "hid" them in my mothers purse. My mother was at work and went to get something in her purse and found them right in front of her coworkers. Can you imagine if this happened to that jerk? I'm sure its possible that some nurses kid could do the same.

Some people are just unreal!

I'm usually a VERY assertive person, but he just grabbed my backpack by the shoulder strap and yanked. My mind just kept repeating, "This cannot ... is not happening!" but it was. All I could think of right then wad that he might come after me and that he was easily 6'4" or 6'5" and looked like he worked out. Match that with myalmost5'4" self who worked out most days at the YW.

I would have said they were for my monthly cycle cramps. What a jerk!! Yes, you dodged a bullet.

Thank heavens this happened now instead of you having to endure whatever level of jerkiness these people have up their sleeves for weeks or months down the road.
