  1. I would steer clear of long term care. I do long term/rehabilitation. At my particular facility, which used to be county owned and operated, non-profit, is now privately owned and for profit. Staffing and patient loads have been nothing short of ridiculous, since the take-over. They've actually resorted to recruiting workers from all over the country, especially from down south. I've never seen this sort of thing before, but this seems to be the new trend. I can't think of one person that works there that actually loves their job. Everyone is emotionally tapped-out, everyone is just there for a paycheck.
  2. Oh just another thought, we can get pee'd on, pooped on, vomited on, bled on, beat on, coughed on, but we can't unload at the nearby restroom because the odor may be too offensive to others virgin noses, srlsy? This is what we do people, suck it up buttercups hahah.
  3. There are several bathrooms at the rehab facility I work at that literally have signs hung that say "This is a NO BM restroom". I think the signs were made/hung by employees that work there, makes me giggle everytime I see them. Half tempted to go in there with a hat and leave a BM sitting in it for everyone to enjoy. Pardon my sick sense of humor.
  4. Small minds talk about people, great minds talk about ideas. I've seen the pettiness with both men and women, although i'll have to admit the women have it dialed in and on lockdown in my experience hahah. Men can't compete when it comes to the backstabbing/gossip imo, although some men come close. I think it's just nature/socialization, we are different from each other in how we think/act. As far as the pay goes, everyone I work with, boys and girls, we are all at the same pay grade, based on experience and time put in. I try not to put up any walls to anyone and try to get along with everyone. Every person reacts/works each according to their gifts!
  5. The laziest one's usually have the biggest mouths. Talking about all the hard work they do/ have done(while sitting down). If you play "nicey-nicey" with them, they just keep on taking advantage of you, which says a lot about what kind of people they are. If the upper hierarchy at your facility doesn't do anything, when you report them, I would just look for another job. Really not worth your aggravation if management doesn't care. I've run into this sort of thing countless times.
  6. Fry hats, white skirt uniforms, white panty hose, ugly white hospital shoes....... Oh the horrifying sterile looking uniforms....prim and proper...makes me want to throw up in my mouth... I'm sure those before us, before the invasion of the male species, are growling at us in their coffins as we work the floors.
  7. I'm sure the owners just love you. You are saving them so much money, by working you harder than a Hebrew slave, and paying you peanuts. It's greedy facilities/owners like that, that I hate the most.
  8. What a person does in their off time is really none of your business, especially when at work. You want to slam the gavel down high upon your seat of righteousness, because you saw some random message on a phone, tell everyone at work, and then go post it all over these forums. Sounds like you go digging for drama at work any chance you get. You've been a nurse what 2 years now? Time to grow up.
  9. But she did stay at a holiday inn for at least one night.....(remember the commercial)
  10. I would go to Cost-co in a new York minute, but I am still enjoying the stress, chaos, mayhem, flack from management, angry patronizing doctors, and the fly by the seat of my pants work atmosphere, oh and the lovely scheduling. I love the abuse. Besides I want to cook somewhere, l love food. I'm thinking a restaurant somewhere They must have high paid agency cooks somewhere, theres got to be.
  11. Yes, this is what I've experienced as well. It does feel like a "business" now. It will have to get worse before it gets better is my philosophical take on the matter, the system will eventually collapse under it's own weight someday. But to you UK.. don't give up. You sound like a genuine person, who has a big heart and you honestly care about your people and believe in what you are doing. There is still a place for you somewhere, use your gift and keep going.
  12. aren't the docs supposed to talk to the patient and mark the part to be removed, themselves? Gossip is fun. Isn't that why we all became nurses in the first place, so we can talk about everybody? JK ... But if that actually happened... wouldn't the good doctor be held accountable as well, why just throw the nurse under the bus?
  13. You will eventually become neutered while in the trenches, then you will be fine. You will perform near or possibly better than the woman. I could be wrong though.
  14. And the forum sharks have arrived...."joining just to denigrate posters", "why don't you make it to them instead of a message board". Nice, well done.
  15. ^^ Don't worry to much about all the brow beating women that made negative sounding comments regarding what happened. Especially loved the comment questioning your ability "to provide competent nursing care, if you couldn't even renew your license on time". That made me laugh. Spoken like true nursing instructors, They must be very proud of themselves I'm sure. Every single nurse out there has made a mistake sometime or another, don't pay their bs any mind. Besides I wonder what all those license fees get us anyways? I wonder what they do with "fine" money, what does that get used for exactly? But who am I to question the all-powerful board of nursing. Did the board of nursing help me thru school? Don't they receive money from state taxes as well? I'm sure there are other sources as well. My license of 20 years lapsed as well, time to pay fees and fines I guess, because that's exactly what I deserve right? /rant off
