  1. I received an offer of employment this morning and went to HR to sign the offer. The only contingency on the offer was a urine drug screen, which I had to take immediately. The problem is that I have horrible allergies and have been battling with s...
  2. I accepted a new position and started Monday of this week and after the first day realized that I had made a HUGE mistake and that there was no way in heck that I would ever like or be happy at this job. BUT I agreed to give it the week and by today...

  4. Help! Pre-Employment Drug Testing

Ha Ha, maybe not - in case I have to pee for them again! Actually, when I got home from my drug test I did a "Google search" about OTC drugs and UDS and wound up on a truck driver's blog where they where talking about Sudafed - so I got myself all fr...
  5. Charting Bloopers

A new charting blooper written by a pediatrician that was attending the delivery of a preterm infant: "infant delivered via c-section with apgars of 8 and 9 with no signs of being dressed".
  6. Help! Pre-Employment Drug Testing

Well that's where the real problem lies. I have heard that taking Sudafed can produce a positive result for amphetamines - but the question is how much? I have been taking 60mg (recommended dose) at least once a day for about a week now. I'm hoping...
  7. All of our managers are gone by 5:00 M-F, have their weekends and holidays off, and don't work any overtime. They sit in their cute little candle & potpourri-scented offices and wonder why nurse retention is at an all-time low?
  8. Has anyone ever seen this before?

Maybe it was a key to the kingdom of heaven?
  9. Questions: Nurses leaving the Profession

I think that nurses leave the profession because they simply get burnt out. Hosptial nursing is HARD work. Not only are we having to care for very sick patients but we are having to cater to their family members as well (thank you "family-centered ...
  10. phone calls no outsider would believe

Must be from the same book that you will tie a knot in the umbilical cord if you reach up over your head while pregnant!
  11. phone calls no outsider would believe

We had a call from a pregnant woman wanting to know if her baby would drown if she took a tub bath?
  12. Oklahoma City University

I graduated from OCU's RN to BSN program this year and it was 4 hours per week - either in the morning or afternoon. No Saturdays.
  13. Complaints vs Safety of the Nursing Staff

    :rotfl: :roll AWESOME!!!
  14. please vote--change career mid life?

It depends on what part of the country you live in. Where I am, new grads start out at about $18/hour. Not too great for someone with an advanced degree. Another thing to consider is that nursing is not a 9-5 job. As a new grad, you may have to w...
  15. Will they hire me?

Ahh, I too have had presentations that I would rather forget! Don't be too hard on yourself. Remember that we are always are own worst critics! You probably did better than you give yourself credit for.:icon_hug:
  16. L&D nights just as busy as days?

I work mother baby & antepartum. I recently went to the day shift after 2 years on nights. In my opinion, days are much busier. Moms have tubals during the day and baby boys have circs during the day. NST's are always done during the day. Di...
  17. suspension

As the owner of a cat that barfs all the time - I understand completely:barf01: But wearing a shirt that says "bite me" is not appropriate for any staff member. I do think that the punishment was a bit harsh, however. Perhaps you should keep a spa...
  18. Fun at the nursing desk! LOL

OMG! Our fun time seems to be around 2:00 - 4:00 am. We put the radio on the 80's station and do "karaoke", but we intentionally sing BAD :chuckle
  19. it sounds weird

    Anything is possible;)
  20. Womens interest in male nurses

We had a half a dozen males in our nursing class. As I recall, only one was actually gay. One was a former EMT, one wanted to do nursing in preparation for med school, one was a displaced auto worker, and so on. Anytime males enter a female-domina...
  21. Memorizing bones HELP!

The science lab at my college had "bags of bones" to practice with. I tried to find some online, but they were very EXPENSIVE. I ended up making copies of the various bones from the text (i.e. the skull, the spine, the foot, hand, etc.) and taking ...
  22. Oldest and youngest mothers?

:chuckle I have no idea why I think that is so funny!
  23. Cone biopsy, bad experience

I understand your frustration about not being informed about the drug - but I would have gladly taken it 20 years ago when I had my cone biopsy - THEY GAVE ME NOTHING! :uhoh21:
  24. Age when you had your first child?

I was 25 when my first child was born. If I had it to do over again, I would have waited about 10 more years because I find myself to be much more patient with very young children now than I was 10 years ago.
  25. 7p-7a question

The patients on my unit are NIGHT OWLS. Only about 50% of them will actually sleep - the ones that don't, I offer them sleep meds if it's ordered. The ones that refuse meds and don't sleep will keep your night interesting
