The dreaded topic...lice
How about catching a live lice and putting it in a Ziploc bag? Pin it to your bulletin board. This will help prove how quickly lice die when off of a human head. Isn't that a super fantastic idea OldDude??!! You have done over and above what you needed to do. Don't let those parents get you all worked up about it. You know waaay more than they or the teachers do. Parents taking responsibility is key. Hang in there nyy2! :snowman:

Need Blog by a Pediatrician?
These reviews...seriously people. You have got to go read them. I was going to copy and paste one, but it wouldn't let me. For a good belly laugh, check it out. But, make sure it is a safe time. You know what I am talking about---noseynellieteacher isn't near and wanting to know what is making you roll in the floor laughing!! This is some of that really cool stuff that we like to read that was mentioned on the Dr. Chad thread yesterday. Just not quiiiiiiiite as educational. Unless, there is an epidemic of Constipation.

Need Help QUICK .Are you responsible for getting sub coverage
Lake- Sorry, I am not much help. I go to 3 different districts (4 buildings). I don't have subs, since my secretaries and adm. cover my office when I am in another district. But, I wanted to wish you good luck with this dilemma/concern. I hope we can provide you with support and encouragement and help you through this.

That's So Fetch! (Pink Wednesdays)
Well, I am not sure. I guess I will have to sit with your bunch. Or, I might have to be left out totally today. I was looking forward to wearing my pink shirt today. BUT, my basketball boy fell hard during a game last night on his arm. Went to ER (small, local wonderful little hospital) ER doc wasn't able to tell if its broken. Following up today. Sooooooo... I am at home taking care of my own today. Which I am so thankful to be able to do that. BUT...on a funny side note. HE turned on the recording of The Bachelor. I am anxiously awaiting to see the nutty Nutritional Therapist that was mentioned in another one of our School Nurse threads yesterday. Happy WedsPinkDay Friends!!

Need Blog by a Pediatrician?
I wanted to share with you all a new blog by a Pediatrician that I stumbled on to today. I read through several of his articles. They seem spot on. They are written in plain English. Which would make it so useful when relating or sharing with parents. Here is the web address- Chad Hayes, MD | demystifying pediatrics Just FYI- He has some a couple of blogs on Essential Oils and indicates that he is going to do a 3rd one in the near future. There are many other very useful items. Happy Happy New Year!!

Teachers and head lice
To add a little more of what my thoughts are...when a teacher gets on a tirade. I let them go on and on until they get all done. (Because, they think they are really teaching me something and I let them have their "moment") Then, I make sure I have covered the basics. Same old thing- blah, blah, blah. If they are still rambling after that, I say something like- "Do you rub your head directly against a student's head??" Of course, their answer is, "Well, NO, of course not!!" I say "Fine- then you have nothing to worry about." That's when I make sure they take the message away to think ahead about what their kids in the classroom are doing and make sure they aren't allowing them to have close head to head contact. Then I get the, "But...we have movie day when they bring their pillows, whatever...etc. they come up with". I smile, look them in the eye and gently remind them that lice are spread by direct, prolonged head to head contact and there are certain things that are a "must" in the classroom....and then they usually leave me alone about it for awhile. BOTTOM LINE-- THEY GET THE SAME, GENTLE, MATTER OF SCIENTIFIC FACT ANSWER -- EVERTYIME

Reflections... Thanks OldDude
The coolest. What makes us even better is that we don't eat our young or our old. :)

Reflections... Thanks OldDude
Like most of you cool people. I usually reflect about my day at some point in the evening. The positive, the not so positive, the funny, the kids, etc. Sooo, last night was a busy night. Went from school, to help at our local Food Pantry, to my sons ballgame. Didn't really have time to reflect much. When I finally got to bed and all snuggled in with my hubs. (Its cold here in North Mo.) I begin my usual reflection................... And suddenly, out of no where. The image of that picture of OldDude in his red Christmas attire came busting into my peaceful thoughts like the beloved KoolAid guy. It was all I could do not to bust out in the same loud chuckle that I did earlier in the day when I first saw it. I wanted to explain it all to my hubs (he appreciates good school humor), the crazy fun we had yesterday on here. But, I didn't have the energy. I was sleepy. But, it was so funny, all over again. Happy Happy Friday everyone. :)

Not nursing, but..
OK FLARE- I burst out in a loud chuckle. I am in my office again today where the Principal and Secretary are right around the corner. The Principal is out and about right now. So she didn't hear me. If the secretary would have heard me, she would have been in here wanting to laugh too. She is one of my cool peeps. Another reason why I love my Fridays.

Not nursing, but..
Thanks Flare for helping me out here. No way did I mean for pistol to put this on FB. I was hoping the mom didn't start a big drama mess on FB about you, pistol.

Your Clinic
Since I go to 4 different buildings in 3 different small districts. I will summarize as best I can. How many in your student population ? I have about 70 in each building. With an additional 50 early child sped little sweethearts in one building. I.LOVE.THEM. One building is 7-12. How big is your clinic, where is it located ? 2 of my offices are adjacent to the main office. The other 2 are in different parts of the building. I do have an attached bathroom in one :) How many meds to you give each day? One building has 2, another has 6, one has 1, and the other has 0. On average, how many kids do you see each day ? 0- 5 or 6. on a busy day 10-12 How many beds ? 1 in each office, except one building I have a chair (unless someone has borrowed it in my absence.) That sounds crazy. But, in this building. Kids know they can't lay down, and usually will go right back to class. Unless, of course, they are obviously sick enough to go home. I love this schedule. I don't get involved, and no one really expects me to get involved in the stupid drama that occurs regularly in any given building. Another perk, is that if there are those teachers/staff/adm. that get on my nerves. I don't have to see them everyday!!
