  1. I am in the same position. Would love to hear some feedback.
  2. I bring nonfat yogurt, fruits, protein bar, granola bar, avocado cut in half and put in ziplock bag. I scoop out avocado with a spoon and just it it like that. Some veggies like baby carrots, cherry tomatoes, nuts, mozarella stick cheese, and a scoop of protein that i later mix at work. Thats pretty much everything i bring with me everyday. I snack a lot.
  3. I drive 1.5 hours to work and 1.5 hours back each day [emoji85]
  4. Either way, if patient is pulseless you need to start compressions, one you get the pulse back, you can start managing bleeding with pressure or iv fluids Sent from my iPhone using allnurses
  5. More info please, how much blood is being lost? Where is the bleeding? Sent from my iPhone using allnurses
  6. I dont know how your step down is, but the one I was in most of the time did not have patients hooked to monitors. That mean you will have to know and see if/when your patient begins to deteriorate. Since you wont have a hundred bells calling you to alarm you when that happens, you will need to have great assessing skills. One advice is to not take a step down lightly. A lot of times, the patients there are still very sick, just means that someone was a little sicker that needed the bed in the icu. Best of luck! Sent from my iPhone using allnurses
  7. Good luck to you as well! Would love to hear how your orientation goes. Sent from my iPhone using allnurses

  12. I spoke to HR today, and they said that its not really a 5 day orientation, more like 2-3... I was very flabbergasted. However, the lady said that the nurses there are extremely helpful and that I could always ask for help. I decided to accept the offer since I dont exactly have jobs lining up for me. Also, my starting salary will be slightly more than what new grads are offered around here. I will update after I go through the orientation. Thanks to everyone who commented. I love this community and all of the fellow nurses!
  13. Thank you very much for your response. You are right, I would never want to put anyones life in danger as well as my license. Since I haven't had my orientation yet, I can say how I feel about this position, however I will definitely listen to my gut once its over. Sent from my iPhone using allnurses
  14. Thank you very much for your response! I have been reviewing my Medsurg notes, in hopes that it will give me more confidence for when I start. But I know that each facility has their own most commonly used meds and lab values. I also view youtube videos to refresh skills and just to feel in a zone. Sent from my iPhone using allnurses
  15. Thank you so much for your kind words. This made me feel much more confident, I will keep your advice in the back of my head during this chapter of my life. Sent from my iPhone using allnurses
  16. From what I was told thus far, they expect me to be able to float to all of the units. As far as orientation, I was not told yet which units they would cover, only that it would last for 5 days. Sent from my iPhone using allnurses
  17. Thank you so much! This is very helpful. When do you make the list? Do you come earlier before your shift to see who needs what? Sent from my iPhone using allnurses
  18. I hope this facility will have something like this in place I really dont want to feel and look like a deer in the headlights. Sent from my iPhone using allnurses
  19. Thank You for your response. I dont need to be taught how to be a nurse, however this particular facility has 310 beds. It is quiet large, and I am assuming they have many different policies in place that in my opinion might be challenging to grasp in less than a week. Also, I have not had more than 4 patients under my care at a time, and I am scared I might get a lot of patients and will run out of time to provide them with necessary care as I have read that many LTC facilities give 20-50 patients per nurse. 21. I have looked for few months already and its very tough with jobs where I live 😔 People are telling me I am lucky to have found this. Sent from my iPhone using allnurses
  22. 😥 I am very anxious, as I have heard that nursing home is the easiest way to lose a license... However, I cannot find a job elsewhere, so I am considering taking this position. Sent from my iPhone using allnurses
  23. Hello, I need some word of advice. I am being offered a position in a nursing home. The orientation is only five days, and then I would be on my own. I am scared that I might not be able to grasp all of the new information being thrown at me in this time frame. Is this a normal amount of time for orientation? Or am I right to be scared? By the way I am a new grad, so no experience here. Thank You! P.s. If anyone has any tips on how to "survive" in a nursing home please share!
