  1. Hey hon! You did great! You didn't miss anything at all! Everyone has different reactions. Sometimes concussions can be asymptomatic until several days or even weeks later. Usually doctors send students with concussions back to school with accommodations to slowly reintegrate back to school full time. I'd recommend the parent request that from the doctor.
  2. Hi there! I had a parent like this last year. I called every time her daughter came in and would let her speak to her daughter, too. She truly appreciated the calls. We developed a rapport and she grew to trust me in caring for her daughter. I know it seems trivial, and sometimes it is, but I think the crux of it, for most parents/guardians, comes down to trust. Once that's established, it puts their mind at ease. I can't comment on districts that require it, though.
  3. Wow, are you me? We have the same background (peds office then school nursing)! I know it can be easy to beat yourself up but try to remember that school nursing is its own specialty. You are smart and capable! We can't possibly predict the ending of any injury or illness and even if we suggest the child be taken for further evaluation, the parent/guardian may not take them. I, too, have been at the receiving end of parent fury and it's hard not to take it personal. You take care of students and staff all day every day. As far as being unsure if you need more floor experience, you could always try to pick up some PRN shifts to get your foot in the door and see how you like it. Don't ever forget your worth.
  4. I'm not sure about samples, but I know a lot of school supply sites have a pretty inexpensive trial-size deodorant. What is your clinic budget?
  5. My procedure is exactly the same.
  6. I would not assist, but I would offer supplies. If they're old enough to get a tattoo, they're old enough to do the aftercare.
  7. Thank you so much! I was worried.
  8. I am an LPN in Ohio. I work for a pediatrician and give SQ, TB, & IM injections. My friend is an MA and says she doesn't believe I should be allowed to give injections. A friend of hers (also an LPN in Ohio) works LTC & said she's not allowed. However, we learned about/performed injections in nursing school, and wouldn't it be considered "medication administration"?
