Depressed and worn out
DITTO. Quit being a door matt. You are the child. Not the mother..of the mother. Only she can get her act together. Don't let her bring you down. As far as God goes..God loves you for what you have done...but you can't change her...only she can. God loves her if SHE reaches out. You are not her saviour...she has to do it. Now go reach out to God and focus on you and your family. If she can't do it...it's not your fault. This guilt stuff really gets to me. DONOT FEEL GUILTY. We are individuals, all born that way and the choices we make is what we should own. It's our own fault and not the fault of others!

90 minute infusion would be the fastest I would deliver it.

Not for profit vs for profit facility?
Worked both types of facilities. I prefer the non-profit. The profit hospitals I worked for never gave us a dime and one of them grossed over 15 million profit. Some new equipment would have been nice. Of course the non-profit are tight on OT. Patient care is better in the non-profit.

Are there any Illinois hospitals I should avoid?
What about Palos? The administrator is a pretty good guy, I sort of grew up with him. I know he'd like to get the nursing department staffed well. He keeps trying to recruit me...no way, cause I won't move back, been gone too long. Had my son there 24 yrs ago..I thought it was a pretty good hospital.

Healthier Living Support Thread: PART TWO!
Just a thought Tweety.... We pack up a plate of the goodies and pass them around to friends and family that don't cook. That's why we cook so much. The boys eat it but we have to feed the world here.LOL Barbeque turkey is a good option too, or freezing it. I'm full of that turkey...back to salads till christmas. Just got to watch the taste testing of those cookies....we make baskets of those too. Ok, to the gym!

Who else has to work Thanksgiving?
I'm working. Part of the territory. It works out for us since I work nights and my family is older now. We did have to turn down traveling to participate in holidays with the rest of the family, but over the years we have had an alternate schedule for holidays. It works out pretty good. Holidays and weekends are the best days to work, in my opinion.

Do Las Vegas hospitals hire new grads?
My input...DO NOT BE A NURSE IN LAS VEGAS!!!!!! Been there, done that....there are other states much more suited for nursing and for grad and experienced nurses.....Will NEVER renew my license there...just my opinion... If you really want to try it...get your experience in a hospital somewhere else then do some travel nursing there...when you've had enough...GET OUT! Vegas burns you out if your a nurse!

Perioperative Internship Experience
welcome and thanks for your post. i too have resigned from hostile environments. i found the or, to be uncomfortable in my nursing rotation. but, the hostility continues in other nursing settings as well. i just do not do well in hostile situations and opt out vs hanging in. i have found this to be the best option for me. monster.com is a helpful site for working up a resume and getting in a environment much more suited for optimal pt care. good luck!:)

Hello I am new here My liscence revoked
gianna, I have have no personal experience with your situation. However, I have worked with others in a similar situation. Some have destroyed their nursing career but have recovered. Others have faced the music, went though the legal processes and through intense recovery programs. It is a struggle to recoup. But some can do. Pick yourself up by the boot straps, face the music and set a goal and strong determination for recovery. Others have done it and are now re-practicing as nurses. It is possible to get through this. I wish you all the support and prayers I can give you. Shelly

A Hard Lesson Learned
After reading your post..it brought back all of those extremely challenging times I have encountered. Been there, done that...different circumstances. I have to remind myself, I am human, I have flaws, I am not the bionic and super nurse I am expected to be. I did the best I could and I think you did also. That is why I recently moved out of acute care. Way too much is expected of me. I won't let that buckle me. I have a mild burn-out because of the stress. And it doesn't help that I beat myself up either. I have never been written up or challenged by management. Only in my own perfectionist mind. Says alot about what medicine is expecting of us. I deeply empathize with you. We have the ups and downs...that's why I cherish all the ups I can get. I have been a very valuable nurse to so many others. I am glad you posted. I am thinking of you.

3-11 in LTC
I recently returned to long term care after several years in acute. I was very surprised to see the decreases in staffing. I think it's risky. I am considering returning to acute because of that. It sounds like your workload is a bit more strenous than here. Good luck.

Nursing school or Medical school
There are many options in both fields. I chose nursing and I am glad. My son will be the doctor. Medical school is along haul. He's young enough to do it. Good luck with your decision and welcome to allnurses.com!

Terminated from LTC!
Wow, sorry to hear your situation. My only advice....Nursing Unions....they would have protected you or at least given you the opportunity for recourse.

Question about Trachs
Thanks for the info. I wasn't to sure about a few things.:)

Question about Trachs
Shiley's have plastic disposable inner cannula that are replaced daily. Jackson's are metal and they are removed and cleaned every shift just as super rn describes. I think buvonas are also metal. I think a passe-muir valve only fits on shileys though, i could be wrong about that. Jacksons can be pugged for vocalization and weaning.
