WOW! I've been an RN for 34years, in all aspects of the profession. I've NEVER had a patient be even REMOTELY abusive in the manner you are speaking of, and it's always been please, and thank you, and when you get time. The only time I've been reported to the physician is when I had a momma dilated 9cm, and wanted to get out of bed to have a BM, NOT! You'll sit on the bedpan, or go on the underpads provided, and I'll clean anything up.( We won't be dropping baby in the floor today.) I didn't say that part. But she got really mad at me for having to go in the bed, nevermind the safety of her baby, let alone herself. After doctor heard my side, it all went away. Life is a peculiar business at best, it would seem. But a good business to be in.

you will be very marketable, even L.A. and San Francisco are begging for all types of nurses, ADN's, BSN's, LVN'/LPN's. Go on Craigs list for a more sure way of getting your info. thru to the right person, people don't realize how much it offers. The lists of jobs for Psych nurses with experience was astounding to me, all over the state. Pay is good too! Good luck.

It's not Denver, it is YOU. As I stated, you are a native coloradan, it is obvious. I've seen you on many threads, and your only reason for being on here is to cause conflict where none exists. AND, I'd believe you would do away with all ADN's if it were in your power, thank GOD it is not. That is what your beef is all about and you want to misuse this site to demonstrate that. Too much reality of the negative will certainly turn the naive away from trying to move forward. There is so much positive to be giving, and paying forward, to steer someone , our young ones, toward succeeding in their new career, thus taking their place in our medical community hopefully sooner than later. There are too many naysayers and ego's to be fed on this site. Such a disappointing acknowledgement of older nurses who would rather put up roadblocks to our newbies, than try and help them genuinely find their place in this world. Just do your own homework little ones, and leave the naysayers in the dust.

scared silly is incorrect. All Centura and Exempla hospitals are hiring ADN's. I am an ADN and have personally been offered jobs recently by both. An ad may say "BSN preferred", but if your experience is what they want, you are in. Magnate status does not require all BSN nurses to be employed by these hospitals, Magnate status is obtained in many ways, BSN's are just a small part of it. Don't let it scare you. Apply at will. OH, just come to Colorado, they are so loose here, anyone can do anything. Seriously. I miss home so badly in Texas where standards are upheld. Here, I've been in fear of my license on many occasions.

question for moderator, is "ASN" Associates of Science in Nursing?, another term for ADN? or is this something else? just curious if california uses ASN instead of ADN, might help in getting a job?

I just received my CA license Nov. 30, 2014. June 15, 2014: Sent everything by Certified Mail w/return receipt (so they couldn't say they didn't get it), spoke directly with my administration at my nursing school, and stayed on the phone with them while they e-mailed my transcript as well as mailed an original copy to California, and did the same with the Board of Nursing here in Colorado while they sent my nursing license. August 2014, went online to CA website, notification was my check had been cashed. They would inform me when my application was in process. October 2014: application in process per CA website. Nov. 30, 2014, RN Nursing License received. I had to stand on top of their heads and bang away and do everyone's job for them, and this was the advice of the DORA, Department of Regulatory Agencies, nursing division, because they are so messed up over at the CA Board of Nursing in Sacramento, who takes care of all of us, they alot of times will throw applications away that even have EVERYTHING they need. They did that to me back in 2010. Thank goodness they did not cash my check. So this time I went thru DORA, nursing dept. consumer affairs to get advice on how to handle it. It still took 5.5mo. to get my license, but by gosh, I've got it!!!

they will be able to tell you that at the Meet and Greet, and if you don't, you'll probably be introduced to several of the nurse managers of different departments ANYWAY!!!!!!! You GO GIRL!!!!! They will say, let me help you find your way thru this, to speak to the appropriate folks. I'll bet the recruiters will be out in FORCE. NO PROBLEMO GIRLFRIEND!! Go and ENJOY! San Antonio has so many FABULOUS hositals in the area, low cost of living, and good pay and benefits. GOOD MOVE!

you are in the game so far, they will not send you a letter tho, unless they just started doing that. Go on their website, and follow the prompts. It will tell you what month they are looking at applications that they just cashed the checks for. they cashed my check in August 2014, and I received my license the end of November, 2014. I'm assuming you are checking their online board for updates of this nature, that's why you know they cashed your check (in addition to your bank statement). The board also tells you what applications are in process from what month they received everything and cashed your check. The California BOard has a plethera of issues causing what everyone is going thru right now. I, personally, applied back in 2010, sent all the same stuff, and a year later, finally got someone on the phone to find out what happened to it, he said "oh yeah, I've got it right here". IT WENT IN THE TRASH! But they never cashed my check. THIS TIME, I called the DORA, "Department of Regulatory Agencies", and boy did I get an earful about how the Nursing Board was handling things. She KINDLY sent me not ONE, but TWO fingerprint cards, I redid everything, sent it in last June, 2014, CERTIFIED MAIL, RETURN RECEIPT, spoke directly with my nursing school administration, and they sent my transcript right then to california by e-mail, and sent me back an e-mail that it had been received by the Calif. board, also I called the Colorado board of nursing licensure, and had them send everything to Calif., again, I received verification by e-mail all this was done. I had to jump thru some hoops, but it worked! I seriously think the California Board is still throwing applications in the trash unless you force it upon them. So, like so many other things, you have to do not only your job, but theirs as well. SO BE IT. I am licensed as an RN in California, (ADN) and have received so darn many job offers I am going to have to go out there for two months to interview, and decide where I want to live. Northern California of course, maybe as far south as Livermore. Not too far from Stanford. But the traffic may encourage me to stay more eastward to work. Not too far from the ocean tho! Good luck to you, the pay seems to be commensurate with the areas, but not in the home health field. California medical doesn't pay enough to support anyone, maybe $20.00/visit !! Hospitals are MUCH better, $50.00/hr and up, I hear Kaiser pays $70.00/hr, and the DOC pays even more (department of corrections) with bonuses! I've done quite a bit of homework on all this as I intend to move out there by the summer. My ear is sore from all the phone calls. Now I don't know anything about southern california's pay rates or job rates. Only from San Luis Obispo northward. Again, good luck!

I cannot express how EXCITED I am for all of you who will be given the privilege of this residency program. I went through one at "MOTHER BAYLOR" University in Dallas, Tx., 1981, yeah, I'm an older gal), the experience was beyond phenomenal.!! I'm JEALOUS, I'd like to do it again. Those were great days, work your a.. off all day, crash at nite, party on the weekends. My first summer is a blurr (it was a 2yr program). But you GOT IT! AND, working among and with all those wonderful interns, residents, they are learning too, don't forget. You can learn alot from each other, and dont be shy to ask questions. If they don't know, they are good about asking a colleague or their Sr. Resident, or even the guy over their program. It's a wonderful environment for learning from all sides. I am truly envious, oh, but be sure and ask your preceptor first, if he/she is available. Don't want to give the wrong impression! Remember a few things: DON'T be afraid, you are learning. There is no shame in being ignorant, raise your hand, ask someone to teach you what you don't know, or dont remember. There will be ALOT you will say later " oh, I knew that", you were just overwhelmed and forgot at the time. It's like being in first grade all over again, EXCITEMENT and WONDER. Let it EAT YOU UP like I did. I couldn't get enough. And one other thing ladies and gentlemen. I wish someone had told me, I would have suffered less indigestion. You can only control your own actions, you are responsible for your own state of mind, not the state of mind of others who have come to work looking to dump on someone else. It is a reality. Try to recognize it, and rise above it. It has NOTHING to do with you. Go on about your business of taking care of your patients and learning. THAT is your priority. AND DO YOUR BEST! GODSPEED! Hey there blueyes27, go to "Craigslist" choose Denver, medical jobs. page 1, about halfway down the page, it says: NEED PEDIATRIC HOME CARE RN'S, ASK ABOUT NEW GRAD PROGRAM", it is with PROFESSIONAL PEDIATRIC HOME CARE, Inc. in Denver, but you have to answer their ad thru the craigs list e-mail, or maybe you could look up their phone number. GRADUATE OF AN ACCREDITED RN PROGRAM, NO BSN mentioned! It would be a good start with a preceptor! Check it out! POST ID# 4825877292.

not really any VA jobs except occasionally, poor pay, people not treated well as I'm told. Colorado as a whole does not pay well, and does not keep up with HIGH HIGH cost of living. Nobody probably told you that, but it's TRUE.

blueyes27: some of those resume's and applications you put online do NOT go thru, I've found that to be true myself, about 50% of the time! SO, what I've done, is get the name of the company, hopefully they will have a phone number and/or an e-mail. Contact them. TELL THEM YOU ARE AN RN, then Request to speak to their Human Resources person, or their nurse recruiter if they have one, tell them you are having difficulty getting your resume's thru to them, ask if they have it. If they do not, ask for an e-mail you can scan it into if you have that capability. or ask if you can bring it by.... :--) . GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Pardon me, we were talking "ADN'S" generally in my conversation . Not just new grads. You are mixing the two conversations. Childrens has a "new grad. post graduate program" they are offering to BSN grads, because they are working on their "Magnate" status. UCH isnt hiring new grads at all. This is a young lady who needs our help, and I was offering something positive for her, ' its not your job to eat the young, or anybody else's. It's our job to HELP her, if we can. Not put up roadblocks.

THIS is the best suggestion I've heard so far. This is EXACTLY what I and my colleagues did DURING nursing school. work prn/pt as an aide at the hospitals you are doing your clinicals in, YOU WILL BE SEEN!

that's not true. ANY hospital in the metropolitan area will hire an ADN , happens every day. Even tho the ad may say"BSN preferred", they will take ADN's any day. In fact, most hospitals are 75% ADN's. Without experience, it doesnt matter if you are ADN, BSN, or MSN. Period. There are several Home health agencies around and will hire you as a new grad, in fact, there is one in Wheatridge specifically who advertises for new grads, (PHHC), and several others. Look on Craigs List also. Or call some of these "skilled nursing facilities", I just talked to one who just hired THREE NEW GRADS. I believe also that Centura Health has a "new grad program" for the O.R.

Ladies and gentlemen, you MUST take time out for FLUID INTAKE, and OUTPUT. While you are young, your body handles it pretty well, but as you get older, fluid retention can take over, you can get inflammatory issues, auto immune disorders from the inflammatory disorders, PMR (polymyalgia rheumatica), takes a steroid shot to get rid of that, if you can unstiffen to go to the pain specialist to do it. TAKE CARE OF YOURSELVES!! PLEASE!

you sound like supernurse, and to remember all those details, I applaud you! I hate to say this, but I'm glad to see more and more hospitalists LOSING their jobs, they are as useless as TITS ON A BOAR HOG! ANd I applaud you for your quick action, your accurate assessment, and getting all the help you needed for your patient in a timely fashion. You walked into a nightmare, and saw daylight. I'm seeing our doctors here more and more going to see their own patients in the hospital. I know hospitalists seemed like a good idea at the time, but like so many other things that do, right down the toilet.

Simply put, if you THINK you made a mistake and don't know how to fix it, go and grab a nurse , and have them explain to you if you did or did not change anything on the pump, then you can make a learning experience out of it. I agree with all the others, these pumps have a way of STOPPING THEMSELVES, BEEPING INTERMIDIBLY, until someone comes to fix them. There is no shame in being ignorant or making a mistake, the shame comes when you do nothing about it. THAT would have been the correct thing to do, GO AND TELL SOMEONE WHO KNOWS MORE THAN YOU DO. IT'S OK. DOING NOTHING IS NOT OK. But I guarantee your situation righted itself, so get over it, and get some counseling.
